running large reports from web console on 8.1

Question

We have setup several reports generating 1-3 months worth of data from the web console. We just upgraded NPM from 8.0 to 8.1 this weekend. We are seeing that reports with 1 month and above time duration are not running, where reports for generally 1-2 weeks are running fine. I have gone in the SWNetPerfMon.db file and changed the SQL commandtimeout to 300 secs and also changed the ASP script timeout to 420 secs in the solarwinds IIS website. Anybody having this issue or know the fix to this?

I had a similar issue, pre 8.1, it turned out to be a lack of resource (memory & heavy disk I/O) on my db server.  If you are running a separate db server then open perfmon and monitor Avg Disk Que lengths, if its high (like 100%) for a more than 2 or 3 minutes, there is your issue.  Here is a good link to How to Perform a SQL Server Performance Audit .  Adding memory alone may not fix a particular issue without additional SQL server tuneing...
