spacefrowns, what resources do you have loaded on you home page? How many elements are you monitoring etc.
-
I kept getting a "sliver" of a page when I used your step 8 so I tweaked and tuned it some: <iframe width="1400" height="750" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"></iframe Couple notes: You will have to trail and error the width and height to get your page to fit.…

There is a big difference in polling and statistical collection, my polling intervals are very short. With 19316 Elements here are the polling intervals I have set: Nodes = 240 seconds Interfaces = 160 seconds Volumes = 180 seconds Rediscover = 10 minutes That is where you need UDLD and Spanningtree Syslog message rules…

This might sound crazy, and may have nothing to do with the error messages your getting; but bear with me on this: Check all of your Advanced Alert definitions to see if you are writing any of them to a local file or sending an email/page, because the way the AlertingEngine works is not bound to same server that has…

Most, if not all of the useful log files are in C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion. There names are exactly what they are; such as AlertEngine.Log is the Alert Engine log. I can honestly state that after several years of running Orion I have only looked at one log file on a regular basis (swdebugMaintenance.log.) That is…

Sounds doable... when you get it to work put your code up on the CSZ http://thwack.com/contentsharing/ Read this before you start: oh, its not a bandwidth hog, its a DB / Orion server resource hog especally the DB disk queue lenghts when you fire it up ;) and when it refreshes. Not so much now as it was pre-AJAX…

would really like to pull more vpn information, like peer address or username. I am still looking on how to create those Here is all the information you need: ftp://ftp-sj.cisco.com/pub/mibs/supportlists/asa/asa-supportlist.html ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/mibs/schema/

Here it is:

May Orion v9 sp1 use it? Yes, but without a chart. Chart still does not work in V9.0 SP2 :(

Malvado:SQL Open Error: Invalid column name 'access'. You could have added a Custom Property named Access to the nodes table as well. I do not have this folder c--Inetpub--SolarWinds--Orion--NetPerfMon--Resources--Summary so I am not sure what to do with what is inside this folder which may be the whole problem No such…

very cool, do you think you guys could script something for us folks that have multiple polling engines, just so we don't have to do this manually on every one, every time the server gets re-started for OS patches... same deal with the Syslog service...and Trap service... Come to think of it, can I just un-install those…
-
Yes its a SSD drive, and startup and shut down is... lets just say very intense. during daily operations the average disk queue length is between 10 and 0.011. I have seen very large spikes during monthly report generation, but nothing that would upset the typical client experience in Orion. Honestly I don't dwell on on it…

I bet it queued up a billion or so messages when you used that *, your gonna have to wait for them to run thru the mail que.

Glad to see your still here Guru, and thanks for the work around for the DB Manager... I am not pleased with the direction the Custom Property editor has taken either. It has really put a kink in our processes that we have been using since 2006. I did the install of 10.4.2 last night, it went well except i spent the day…

should I stop all polling engines, or can I do them one at a time?
-
Fire up the database manager and look at the applications table - you can see the column names and the data that is in them. Just use the column name of the data you want Yeah, and you can export the table definitions for future reference... I built a semi accurate DB map(schema), but when my laptop took a dirt nap I lost…
-
Your environment is way to large to get stats every second for each element and expect the DB to survive, but you could do that level of statistics on a per-node /interface basis. Have you ever tried the to do the DB maintenance manually, like I described earlier?

I only run Orion on VM in QA for version, hot fix and patch validation, and the DB is intentionally small (msde). The VM client is a "plain-jane" definition as follows: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1 3.20GHz, 1 GB RAM C:\OS - 7.2GB E:\APPS - 4.0GB F:\DATA - 10GB Orion Network Performance Monitor V8.0 SLX VM or…

Serdar, First and for most, I am not an SQL expert... I will be one day though :) I think there where to many AND(s) in the original query Here is a "work around" report that will list them ordered by Outage time (highest to lowest.) You will have to manipulate the data with a spreadsheet software like MS Excel after the…

When is the last time you did the Polls Per Second Tuning on your NPM? What does you NPM Polling status look like? on the NPM File>Polling Status Here is one of mine: Orion Network Performance Monitor Version 9.0.0 NetPerfMon Engine Network Node Elements 1028 Interface Elements 4317 Volume Elements 27 Date Time 10/21/2008…

Do(s) and Don't(s) while your waiting for the "Executing SQL File: onCoreDatabaseScheme" to complete during the initial run of the Configuration Wizard... Don't: Hold your breath... Freakout... Cancel the Configuration Wizard (even though it looks like the Config Wizard is not responding) Do: Make sure there is allot of…

You can set the report up in Scheduler to run every 30 days and retain the report... or extend your Event retention period for as long as you have database space for... Just some options

Hey, John, if you created that one, it would be fairly slick if you could post it to the Content Sharing Zone. Well I'm in a Love/Hate relationship with the Universal Device Poller, but I'll upload that one :)
-
sounds like you need a support ticket :(

Yes I have.... got all the way to the bottom of it and realized, unfortunately: jvb Apr 18, 2019 2:43 PM Exactly... Ultimately the same functionality will exist everywhere once all the relevant modules pick it up. Until then, buy SAM 6.8! That not going to happen here

Maps, and allot of them...Like one map per site. All embedded in each other... Just try not to put the same resource (router/switch/interface) on more than one map. Here is a post that describes it in some detail. Go watch the Mapmaker tutorial, its a breeze once you get the hang of it.

For the Syslog message settings you have to pull up the Syslog Viewer and then go to File>Settings under the General Tab there is a Retain Syslog messages for how many days, mine is set to 90 days. with my settings; here are my largest tables: InterfaceErrors_Detail 1.0 Gbytes InterfaceTraffic_Detail 2.7 Gbytes SysLog 3.3…

They are posted in the CSZ at http://thwack.com/files/folders/orion_custom_reports/default.aspx

Orion V9.0 - anyone tried it? I added the Syslog-NetPerfMon.charts file to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion I keep getting the following error: Orion Website Error An error has occurred with the Orion website. Additional Information System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Unrecognized chart name "SyslogMsgsRate" Parameter…

There is a custom report available for this in the Content Exchange:
