I've already brought this up with Development they are trying to get some 3COM kit to do some template development. You can create your own scripts as long as the kit you are using is CLI based. Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

We currently have two VMWare instances both run NPM and APM one also runs NCM and EOC. There's around 7000 elements on each of the NPM instances. Up to now we haven't had any issues. SQL runs on two separate 4 core 8 gig 2008 servers. HTH Jon

Arinet It's an interface details table that is dynamically updated and I can only think that there are some maths going on in the background of the report as in the standard reports you can only get a last status change for each interface. Just having Cirrus do this one function has saved us from installing 2 - 3 new…

You can get this report out of Cirrus so I don't know whether it is possible to get it out of Orion and whether Solarwinds will make the functionality avavialble as it's in a different product, they are meant to be looking at combining some of Cirrus's functionality into Orion as they've already done in v3.5. The secondary polling engine is not a full blown web server it's just system manager, syslog viewer, network discover, monitor polling engines, shutdown netperfmon and test fire alerts, the nice feature with having the remote poller all management of the poller ie adding removing and editing device on that poller can be…

Andy As far as I'm aware there isn't a list of 3COM kit that is supported but I can tell you that none of the old 3300, 4400, 4060, 4924 etc don't work with script and config downloads etc any new kit the is totally CLI ie 5500's should work fine. HTH Jon

NG, I know the report writer updates with the refresh setting on the website what I'm talking about is a seperate program that was installed with v7.8 that displays all your pollers and SQL server on a single page, with the status of the services running on the pollers. This would be useful info to be able to look at on…

I got the config view add-on to work but could not get the reports add-on to work so I gave up until hopefully proper integration comes out, miracles might happen and it might be in v8. Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Bryan, I've got an outstanding call with support they have told me Thank you for the update. The Development team is reviewing this information, and is currently working on a resolution. I will keep you posted when an update is available to address this issue. This was on the 17th March. So I assume they are still working…

I've checked this morning and the job tells me it's still running but when I run the report to see when the last inventory update happened no devices updated last night but the job is still running. Jon
-
BB, I've run the inventory during the day without any problems, we are currently managing 126 devices. I've set an inventory in the schedule to run at 11pm every night, I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. Jon

I don't know about the node.getproperty but you can definately get Cisco serial numbers from a Custom MIB poller as that's how we do it with our switches. HTH Jon

Nope not running CATos it's a 3COM core (No chuckling now) I did a re-discover in the node details but nothing happened, so I left it and after a couple of hours the port descriptions changed. Does the re-discover node not run straight away? Thanks Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

It would be a great facility to keep both databases in syn but we currently only manage our Cisco devices and 1 or 2 severs in Cirrus but have a multitude of different devices being monitored in Orion so some sort of custom property in Orion that identified it as a device needing to be synced with Cirrus would be the best…

Aaron You can monitor desktops as long as its got SNMP configured you can do the same as you would with a server. We monitor half a dozen desktops and it works really well with NPM, clicking on the RDP link on the node page runs rdp client for remote connections. HTH Thanks Jon

I've never had a problem with uploading or downloading configs, we're using 2950's,2960's,2970's and 3750's. HTH Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Send a test alert, then take a look at the out text file to see what is happening. It could be a config issue on the Notes server that it now does not allow other app to relay. We had a similar problem when we went from Excahnge 5 to 2003 we had to get the server tweaked so it would allow relaying of mail from particular…

I downloaded v8 of the EE of the toolsets and if you read the release notes the right click integration with Orion will be in v7.6 of Orion. The toolset needs to be on a local machine. I have e-mailed Solarwinds to find out why they are already advertising v7.6 of Orion when it's still only in beta. Once it's released it…
-
No, I had run it at 09:00 to make sure it didn't interfere with anything else.
-
I had the exact same problem and talked to Solarwinds support and asked if you could format the log outputs like the reports that are e-mailed out but unfortunately the reply was no but I'm sure if enough people e-mail support with this request they will hopefully look at tidying it up and actually making it readable.…

W've been running on a seperate SQL 2000 server for the past 6 months and found that it has improved performance on the SQL server and Orion server as we had Observer and a few other apps on the Orion\SQL box. HTH Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Script and batch file work great. Is there a way of automatically terminating the TFTP server so you don't have to do it after each time the schedule has run? Thanks Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

You can get a remote polling engine for orion which links back to the main NPM, we are currently running this scenario and it works really well. Thanks Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

Will Cirrus be developed to allow us to upgrade the firmware on a Cisco device and also schedule bulk upgrades overnight? Thanlks Jon IT Infrastructure Manager Pilgrim Hospital UK

I've changed it to enable still doesn't work. I added a different router and it worked fine the only difference being is that the router that does not work only requires a password and no login name whereas the one that works has a login name and password. Couls this be causing the problem? Thanks Jon IT Infrastructure…

We have this exact same issue and it would seem to be an issue with the passthrough authentication mechanism, as far as us and Pulse could determine its not a Pulse issue. We've had the same issue with a number of other web apps and we've found moving to https resolves the issue for some reason. Hope this helps Jon

I all depends on how frequently you poll and gather stats and how long you keep your stats for, as this will determins the size of the DB. We currently monitor 296 nodes and our DB size is 7gig, going with the SLX version will give you the flexibility to add as many nodes as you want to Orion without having to worry about…
