Well said. Sometimes it takes a little work to be lazy. And there can almost always be something good that comes out of a negative. Always look on the bright side!

I am interested in this.

I agree with the others. Not really a commodity. You have to have the real commodity first...the servers.

I'm still waiting for this myself. This is a user experience module. It only seems logical to support this to actually monitor a user experience.

Very good info. You do have to scrub your logs when you are sending them to others. You don't want to give too much info to others. I also like how you included a reference to your blog. lol

I love the Product Upgrade Advisor. I just ran across this. This makes figuring out the upgrade path so much easier.

That there will always be attackers, there will always be attacks, and you are NEVER secure.

Can't wait to hear who the winners are...

Congrats steven.goode

I assume you mean challenges from physical to virtual. I have seen issues when trying to virtualize machines with really old applications (like some serial applications).

Because I can make NCM do just about anything I want. I can automate away and make maintenance tasks easy for people with not much knowledge at all.

Your point is very relevant. The GUI software is needed for many of the reasons that you point out. I also agree with smshev that if Cisco transitions to GUI software, it could be their downfall. The GUI software that you speak of is already being produced by other vendors (SolarWinds, Kiwi, ManageEngine, etc.). Most…

People in IT get time off? Spent time running around to all the family with the kids for a week. Helped my daughter move into her first place (and all that goes along with that) and then back at work for a few days. Can't wait for the extended weekend. Still haven't decided on New Years plans. Looking forward to what the…

So I first started reading this I was thinking, "What the heck are you talking about?" I read on and it actually all started making sense. I pretty much agree with all that you are saying, but I don't see how we are going to get to this Monitoring utopia. In large organizations, there is so much separation of duties. Each…

I can't believe CourtesyIT and blipscomb@mcpss.com actually down-voted this. lol

I believe in user device tracking but I have mixed feeling about how much.

As network defender stated, NCM can and will find vulnerabilities in Cisco IOS, Juniper, NetApp, etc. It can be scripted to find and remediate most vulnerabilities. Yes, it does have it's limitations, but so do all other so called "vulnerability scanning tools". There are many vulnerabilities that require manual scanning…

Sometimes it helps to have a paper that shows that you know at least some concepts. In a way it is like a degree. Just because you have one of these pieces of paper doesn't mean you know what you are doing or even have the experience. What it does show is that you are applying yourself and have a desire to excel in the…

I like the new enhancements

Always good reads.

A good alert to have is for backup jobs that didn't complete. I would like to know that I have a backup when I go to use it. I don't like needing to use a backup, only to find out that the backups have not completed successfully for the last month. lol

I just can't justify the HUGE cost, not to mention the application limitations. I just don't see enough performance increase to justify the more-than-substantial cost. I will be passing on this for now and I highly doubt I will recommend it to anyone in the near future.

Gotta have baselines
