Yep. Documentation. Unfortunately, we don't always document. It takes a great deal of time to document as you are troubleshooting. Especially if it is a critical issue. We always seem to document what we remember after the fact. And when you have documentation on something, it always has to be modified as things always…

Where in the realm of IT does this not apply? There will NEVER be one GUI to perform the same configuration across multiple platforms. You will either be learning new GUIs, specific to the vendor, or new commands. Vendors are always buying other companies and bringing in their GUIs when they acquire "new" boxes and product…

Is this implemented?

I was at a friend's house when I was a kid and his dad got a Commodore 64. I though it was the coolest thing. I started messing around with computers and never stopped. It fascinated me. I keep wanting to learn more, so I branched out into all aspects of IT. I am always learning and I always want to know more. It is never…

SolarWinds is a TOP product in its class with those other tools, all used for enterprise-class environments. They got that way by building a community (Now known as Thwack) and listening to its users. The users have made them better. We are tried to voice what would make it better. To stay at the top, you have to GROW with…

No typo at all. There is a right answer there. It is actually in plain sight

I completely get what you are saying and I completely agree. A tool that shows dependencies would be awesome. To show what something being down impacts from an application perspective is a much needed tool. I think we are far off from there. It would definitely be smart management.

Congrats shale2001

Thank you. This is usually an overlooked topic.
