And having a alternate emergency site and offsite backups is a good idea too. Not to mention at least a suite of equipment to work from while a possible rebuild is occurring.

* Which database application is mostly used within your environment (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, DB2, etc)? SQL * Do you have a team and/or a person dedicated solely as a DBA, monitoring performance and analyzing databases? Or is this left to the infrastructure teams to take care of? It is the responsibility of our Core…

I think it just depends on the location and the information being stored. I would not store any sensitive data in the cloud and I certainly wouldn't use the cloud in locations with low bandwidth, connectivity issues, or very remote locations. I also wouldn't use cloud resources hosted in other countries, especially if it…

x10 please. I need to update the URL in the alert to a valid FQDN.

LEM works and it is well on its way.

I just think it's crazy that people actually do think that

No problem! You all are great! We all have plenty of time until Comic-Con 2016. Take your time!

DanielleH, you do such a great job and we appreciate it. You have no reason to apologize. You have set the standards real high for maria.bungau. Welcome Maria!

You have to take into account the links that you are going across. Especially if there are small WAN links and there are no local call managers or gatekeepers. You also need to calculate what is needed for optimal performance based on the codec and which protocols are being used (SIP, H.323, MGCP, or SKINNY).

I completely agree with this. As far as passwords go, this is exactly what is happening. You create a base password and then do a small variation during the password change. It is the only way to keep up with what the password might be. We have too many passwords to remember. I could definitely see why this policy would…

I am really eager to start using this and seeing what it can do. Anything to make troubleshooting quicker

Very detailed. Very good job

Netflow is great and NTA is a good tool to get a quick look at what is going on. And it does not surprise me that telnet is the most targeted port. SSH should be used wherever possible in all environments today. I don't know why anyone would be using telnet anymore and this report shows why.

I can't get this to work either. I just tried myself. Is there something missing sixmill ?

Very good summary. Unfortunately, in my current environment, we have not been able to implement SAM in our production environment. It sure isn't because we don't want to. I have used it in the past and also when it was known as APM. I still use it elsewhere on a smaller scale. APM is very important and useful for many…

This has been around forever. And it sure isn't going anywhere. Process improvement holds true for almost anything. It will almost never hinder progress. I also believe in the purchase of NCM. NCM will make your life a lot easier. It will at a minimum centralize the management of your devices.

We do have a standard that we have to abide by. We pretty much have to keep all logs for all systems for at least a year. We do archive anything older than a month, so we only have 35 days of active log lag that we can look at on a normal basis.

I am not using it now as we are not doing the VoIP in our current environment. I have used it in past and used SolarWinds (many different product names VoIP Monitor, IP SLA Manager, VoIP and NQ Manager). It was a great tool to have. It is very useful to have historic stat for troubleshooting VoIP issues. You will have to…

I don't know what we would do without NCM. We use it for so much now. I love the config change templates.
-
Yes. This release does, but no so much this feature that I can tell.
-
Very good article. This is detailed and very useful information.

You ALL did a great job this year! Looking forward to another one!

We do a pretty good job of configuration management, although some of it is still manual. We still use some spreadsheets. We have automated a lot of it.

The Why question always seems to spark a long meeting. Sometimes it is a welcome meeting, sometimes it is not. But in the end, it is usually good that it is asked.
-
I am looking forward to this being implemented. I always seem to need this.
-
Me too. There are 2 correct answers. No doubt about it. I happened to guess the right one to pick.

There would be mass suicides. The majority of the world (at least in the US) cannot live without their computers, much less there phones. Everything would slowly fade away. There would be nothing left. If you aren't some of the few that live off the grid, you are doomed. Especially if you cannot support yourself off your…

Unfortunately, we tend to go through the logs when there is an issue. We really need to get some alerts setup to trigger when certain logs are received. We certainly have a ways to go in our environment in terms of logging.

Very, very good overview. And I agree there was just too much to do and see. I didn't even get to see a portion of what I wanted to. It was amazing how much attention was put into DevNet. There was a whole conference room dedicated to it and there were a lot of sessions on various things DevNet. I regrettably wasted my…
