I wonder how long they actually waited before it was "immediately" reported. And when we finally do hear a when or how, it probably won't be the whole truth. And this is a loaded question that most people cannot answer. No one knows that they have been breached until they "find" the breath. There is no alert that just…

I would like to see more, but I am a bit skeptical. I would really want to see it in action to see how it compares to others. It would definitely have to be user-friendly and have a good GUI.

I say Never use one of these services. I just don't like the idea of a enclaves logs being out somewhere else that you don't fully control. If there is the possibility of a "security hole", I'd rather it be in-house. I don't want to rely on someone else being responsible for it. With it being in-house, you get to decide…

Good article. And like others have said, I definitely agree with the caterpillar.

- I totally agree with adatole about ML and AI for monitoring. We won't even be there by 2020. I also agree with the IoT comments. Many vendors are already focusing more on security and are hiring to implement/analyze it. - I agree with Kong on IoT bottlenecks, but I don't believe them to be too bad, unless we are talking…

If it can be automated, I usually try to do it. There isn't enough time to get done everything that needs to get done anyway. Automation only helps. It also helps with operator error. That is, if you didn't mess up the automation

Good post. I agree with you on these. And I'd like to add to the remarks in ACL statements. These remarks are only good if they are done correctly. Adding lines in the wrong places in ACLs can really mess up the remarks and then you just have a bunch of useless remarks. You can add lines and resequence and get the lines to…

I would have to agree that a gui that includes everything would be very cumbersome. I would not say that it is not working. It is just that all tasks are not included. And even if they were included (they never will be due to too much customization that is needed across different environments), it would deter people,…

Thank you gsutherland@sharoncu.com

Congrats nhkelley on the win!

It would be nice to have the ability to set automatic baselines for some and disable it completely for others.

Does SolarWinds NCM actually back up NetApps now? I had to make modifications to the NetApp device template to "trick" the NetApps to be able to get the configs. I was wondering if someone has this working without doing this. I am currently using NCM 7.0.2 and will be going to NCM 7.2 soon. I'm not sure if anything has…

Great notes! I will definitely be using these very soon.

I have spent all but $150 of the the gift card so far. Been buying stuff for around the house that I have put off until now. Got a new pot/pan set for my kitchen. A good one. And a cast iron skillet. Got a couple small kitchen utensils and a back of the door shelf for my pantry. Got a good Epson wireless photo printer.…

I have build a help desk from the ground up that turned into a NOC. Having all the user contact information and keeping tickets updated with current status is also key. Also having details in the the ticket to be used for reoccuring issues. There should also be a process to define exactly what group (or who) to assign the…

Congrats you all! That is a super awesome prize. The SolarWinds crew is one of a kind!

Well happy anniversary!

Congrats ttl!

Sorry. I messed that one up. I am running 7.1.1. It is not working in the template.
-
You are correct!

And be receptive of input from other teams. Some of it may be valuable.

I completely agree with you JustinY. I have no need or justification for FSM (as it can't manage my firewalls anyway), but definitely feel that ACL management should be a subset of an application called Network Configuration Manager. Especially since the data is being pulled from the NCM database (Now Orion Core) device…

I agree with you that automation is needed and makes our lives a lot easier. I would also like to add that it must also be understood. It is not good to have automation in place with everyone, except the person that set it up, knowing what it is doing. You must all know what is being done for you. It needs to be…

I am hoping this will be added to config change templates as well as the execution of scripts.

I agree. And unfortunately the government is way behind. They are really lacking in this area. With all the attention that the ObamaCare website stuff got, you would like that user-experience would become a focal point.
-
Thank you, thank you, thank you SolarWinds! And congratulations to everyone else too! I still can't believe it.
-
Very good list. The problem that we have is that we have to get the government to actually invest in the monitoring of the actual applications....
-
I really like where this one is going!

Enjoy your Friday! I hope all goes smooth for you. I hate Friday upgrades for the possibility of what could happen...

I think you really need to do some data collection over an extended period of time. Then you may be able to determine what is really going on. Or at least be able to move in the right direction.
