Ok, so since we are monitoring all the interfaces in NPM we are seeing the VPN Tunnel traffic on the Device overview even though we are not monitoring that interface through NTA because the egress traffic goes out interfaces that are monitored.

I believe I've seen this as well using IE8. It happens to me a lot on the node management pages.

I had a ticket open as well and got a response the other day that it was fixed in 10. I haven't had a chance to upgrade yet to test it out.

I don't know if this would be any easier or not but in our environment, I'd want to know if the path change included our DR site. (IE: Something failed over to DR.) We use BGP multi path so the path could change back and forth between two values frequently, but if it included our DR site, I'd want to know about it.
