  • To echo the sentiments of many, the lack of a definitive release date for this functionality is disconcerting at best. At this point, it would be beneficial to have an official statement such as: it will be out in version 9.x SP? which is targeted for release in Month, Year. From my end, it doesn't matter as much if that…
  • I like the idea of sooner! :) Thanks for the information Denny.
  • I guess what I was hoping for is that you'd say something like, "It'll be in the next release and that is coming soon." I was keeping my fingers crossed too.... If I'm reading things right, it sounds like it'll be a while before I'll be able to customize the trap alerts so that they are readable. Would that be a safe…
  • Chris, Personally I think this is a great idea! :)
  • There are two small problems with trying to use something else. First, we have Kiwi Syslog (Free) and sold Orion as replacing it. (That has changed things a little now.) Secondly, we have a lot of devices and we recently updated them to point to the Orion server. That would mean that if we wanted to view the traps through…
  • This is a feature that's planned for a future release. Hi Denny, I was wondering if you had any more information on this. Our HP maintenance is coming due in a few months and we haven't switched our alerting to Orion yet because of how bad most of the alerts look. We really don't want to have to renew anything and I'd…
  • I know this is difficult to judge or even commit to, but is there any idea of time frame/release level this would be in? (IE: Service Pack vs Minor vs Major release)
  • Hi Johan, Please let us know what you find. We have a very similiar envrionment and have the problem randomly as well. Thanks, Eric
  • I tend to not even look at the web interface as most of our charts were off. We have everything configured for Real Time Change Detection and I get all the messages so I get a pretty good idea of what is going on and I haven't been asked for any reports... yet. I'm hoping support took some of my ideas and change the way…
  •  Since there's so much interest, I'll certainly give it priority for a future release. Thanks Denny, that's great to hear!!!
  • We do. We use a syslog trigger for both the firewalls and our Cisco gear. When you do a save in the netscreens, it sends a nice syslog message for it. I also found syslog worked better for the cisco gear. As soon as someone leaves config mode, it sends a syslog message. I could never get the traps right for when they…
  • From what I was told, it looks for anything in the timeframe that is selected. I was looking at the running vs startup config chart when I opened my case. If either config was outside the timeframe, the chart was off.
  • Is something like this in the road map? I cannot answer to that- Denny would know more and can clarify when he returns, but I would assume so. Have you seen the SNMP trap alert within ipMonitor that uses varibale bindings? I'm not sure what products you…
  • Well said r0berth1! I wonder how much of the No's we've been getting are more based on fear than on experience. I was told no a first because a quick google showed that it could be dangerous...
  • I got it working the way it did but I have a feeling we're going to run into more errors with it. SW - I'm sure its on your list but if not, a way to override the location of a device would be very very beneficial.
  • I know why we are using IE6 and slowly moving to IE7. We have applications that are written to work with IE6 and I think most everyone knows how bad IE6 (and even IE7) is when it comes to following established web standards. We've had some apps not work properly with IE7 because of some of the features that were added.…
  • Do you keep all your config downloads or do you only keep them if changed? We have ours set to only keep if changed. For the report to look normal, I basically had to set it as close to "forever" as I could get it. When the graph is generated it looks for configs in the timeframe. If you have your configs to only be saved…
  • I thought I booted it after the change but I did again just to make sure. It's still there. Its not a huge deal, I was mainly curious and it looks a little strange.
  • Denny, I think that sounds great! It meets all the needs we have. Thanks!
  • I ended up getting a tool update that let it view some of the logs. You have to configure the WSA to export the logs to syslog. I have the following logs configured: Data Security Default Proxy System Logs Updated Webroot The version we're running doesn't support a syslog push for the access logs. Last I looked we were…
  • Our DBA's bounced the service but they were unsure what was needed.
  • We see much more change on the server side than the network side. We had a meeting today and the server admins don't like having to manually add the servers and want me to find a way to "fix it." They are doing a lot of stuff with Disks and moving Physical servers to VM's, etc.
  • I am curious how many of the people experiencing this problem are running on a 64bit OS? We are running Windows 2008 64bit and wondering if Orion has problems under these conditions. We're running Windows 2003 64bit and have notcied problems with the services stopping and the poller running but not putting data into the…
  • Will do... I have a case open as well: $84010
  • Beat me to it, I was going to edit my post: Case # 311111 (I love the number.) Edit: I've verified that it is started and that the correct settings were in place. (As far as I know/can tell.)
  • Is it possible to run this upgrade without losing all of my customizations, or am I the only one that has added company logos and such to the Orion screens? I've made changes to a few of the views (login screen, node details. etc.) that always seem to be reset back to default every time I install a service pack. Now that…
  • We have Orion installed and are monitoring over 12k elements. I wanted to revive this thread to see if there has been any more consideration. Like many of you we are monitoring all our switches and it's hard to see things when a switch that is only half full is blinking like crazy because many of the ports are down.…
  • I haven't upgraded yet, but we plan to next week. After that, I'll let you know.
  • I was afraid of something like that. Thank you for your help!
