I probably shouldn't be, but I'm pretty amazed that people even *sell* used hard drives on eBay (or buy for that matter - it could go both ways). It's not like they are expensive.

Thanks for another great batch of interesting and thought provoking links. Have a great time at MVP Summit.

Thanks for a bunch of interesting links. Ran into a Myst reference on one of them. Man, does that take me back. Your pork bellies look amazing. Had to chuckle at the “Block Chain Cybersecurity Shield” thought. Yikes.

Thanks. Until the mini mission and your article I didn't realize Solarwinds had a product that could do synthetic user monitoring. While real user monitoring is very useful, synthetic also has it's place and is often the only way to get a sense of what is going to happen prior to deployment or if there has been a major…

Thanks, great series of articles.Having a good dependency mapping is critical. So many applications have multiple interconnections and dependencies that troubleshooting and upgrades become nearly impossible without having a good understanding of what is going on.

OMG that is awesome rschroeder!

Thanks for the post. AI is an interesting subject, and like a lot of things it gets too much press from folks that really don't have a clue what it is or can do.
-
As always, sqlrockstar, thanks for a bunch of fascinating links. I just spent the last 45 minutes or so running down the rabbit hole. By the way, your pork belly bites look awesome.

I thought surely Craftcoin must be a joke, but no. Pretty funny.

We actually went down the ATM patch for about 5 or 6 years. Let's just say it didn't live up to the hype. Payload was tiny compared to a lot of other protocols. It was a pain to troubleshoot as well.

Totally agree. We use a lot of open source stuff where I work, but we also use a lot of enterprise stuff. Frankly some of the open source is as good or better the the really expensive enterprise stuff. YMMV for sure. Do your research, test, and make the best decision based on that.

Thanks!

Excellent points @scott.driver. We just started going through an analysis of whether it makes sense to move a particular service to the cloud that happens to be highly interconnected to a boatload of on prem applications/systems. There were several people in the meeting that would flip the switch today if they could,…

Thanks for the post. Good writeup. I've seen a few of these that were "me too" type things where the underlying motivation was to do what everyone else was doing without having a good understanding of what the end goals really were and an analysis that determined that the migration actually made sense. Like everything…

Thanks for sharing adatole. Really slick solution.

wow. totally nailed it. so true.

Dang. Missed the blade thing. I figured if it was in the inventory it must be populated. Not working with blade architecture I have no idea what one looks like in the wild.

Thanks for the post orafik. It's always interesting to hear what's going on it areas outside your domain and find useful things to apply.
-
As always sqlrockstar, thanks for a bunch of great links. Loved the interview one especially. Definitely some good ideas to apply. I've become oddly interested in self driving cars, odd because I actually love driving long distances. The thought of being able to see more intrigues me, and I think it's at least possible…

Great points Rick - you pretty much hit them all. Pretty much every organization has all of those dynamics and factors in play and needs to take them into account before making the leap. Do the homework/hard work, then make the best decision *for your organization* based on the findings.

The electric car boom in Norway is interesting. The raw numbers aren't quite what I expected - the percentages sound so much more impressive. The other thing to note is there is a massive tax penalty driving the whole thing. It would be interesting to see what would happen if electric vehicles were treated like every other…

Great stuff. Thanks for the excellent summary and reminders adatole. Definitely going back for a read through again.

OMG this is so true. I've got a doodle on my whiteboard that's been there for maybe 10 years. I know one of the new peeps is starting to grok things when they quote it or let me know in some other way that they've seen the light. * Cost * Reliability * Performance * <Pick 2>

Came back to send congrats to the winners and realized we're all still in the running. Woo hoo! Congrats to the soon to be winners whoever you may be.

Totally forgot about that commercial. Love it.

Dang it. Totally missed that it was Azure specific. Argggh. Should have read the posts prior to answering this morning.

Either one of these would actually be quite useful.
