BTW - can't wait for this. T minus 6 days and counting.

Interesting list. Thanks. One of the things that has been a pervasive problem with increasing automation (at least in my experience - YMMV of course) is that once the intitial teething problems are dealt with automation quickly fades into the background and within months is taken for granted to the point that the output…

Not in retail thankfully, so rather than worry about the problem I do my best to contribute to the problem.

I'm thankful that where I live we've been largely (as yet at least) free of the scooter infestation. I was shocked at how many were abandoned in all sorts of inappropriate places last time I was in San Diego. It was a great example of what happens when unrestrained chaos reigns. Not good.
-
My thoughts exactly. That would be really awesome if you could automate that bit.

Great post exchangegoddess. I think at lot of us feel like this at times no matter how much experience we have or how long we've been doing it.

I'm a sysadmin/network/dba/firewall guy, so to say people get confused and have no idea what I do doesn't begin to explain it. My wife says I work in computers somewhere and she doesn't understand it (and she really doesn't) but she does appreciate that I can fix any problem she ever has (she has a lot because she really…

I'm still looking for my old Ctron Spectrum and/or HP OV media. I have the same Solarwinds CD you do, as well as some old Sniffer floppies. Still digging in the dark corners of the datacenter for even better treasures.

So many great sessions to choose from. I need to clone myself or figure out how to watch multiple sessions at the same time.

Thanks. Got a chuckle out of the cyberhygiene term - hadn't heard that one before. I think it's interesting that careless/untrained insiders topped the security threat list at 56%, but lack of training was near the bottom of the obstacles at 5%. Seems a bit at odds. I'm not saying it's bad data - just interesting those are…

I agree on with "work with computers" comment, although when I try to tell them what I *really* do they often glaze over very quickly even if I eschew technobabble. At which point I sometimes say "I work with computers" anyway to let them down easy.
-
Well put. Thanks!
-
Lol. That would be awesome. You'd have everyone wanting one.
-
As always, thanks for a bunch of interesting links. I'm with you sqlrockstar on being able to recall the details on a credit card long enough to write them down - pretty impressive. Not such an impressive application of that ability though - you'd think there would be a way to find a better job than part time clerk with…

Congrats to all the winners. Love the mini missions.

Good post, thanks. I've used ansible for a few things, but we don't have a lot of use cases due to the work we do and the type of environment we operate in. Things just aren't that dynamic, and don't need to be.

I thought everyone had learned their lessons about unsustainable business models in the dot com boom and bust, but MoviePass shows you can have an idiotic business plan and still get funded pretty well. Amazing.
-
Excellent post, thanks. We've been fighting this battle for the last couple of years - unfortunately it can take quite a while to get people to understand that there are pros and cons that have to be weighed. You have to do your homework and determine what works best in each situation. There are times where the…

Vaguely aware of loot boxes but had no idea they were correlated with compulsive gambling. Thanks for the links. These will keep me busy for a while.

I second your comments on adatole's post on directions. Brilliant, and has all sorts of applications. I've re-read it three or four times and keep getting more out of it each time.

Thanks for sharing. This doesn't just apply to Federal IT, all of us that are entrusted with data/resource stewardship should be practicing this.
-
Nice firepit! And lots of interesting articles as always. Thanks for sharing.
-
Good post. Thanks!

I really wanted it to be a Duesy. The mission shortcut reminded I need to upgrade to 12.1.
-
I'd missed this one. Thanks for posting.

BYOD is an interesting problem. A lot depends on the environment you're operating in. We don't allow BYOD on our Admin networks, but we have a public network that you can bring anything you want.

Woo hoo. New mission! It's my favorite thing.
-
Yep. Compuserve used to do that years ago (dating myself). I still remember the password but it would be incredibly difficult to guess.
-
Oh boy! My favorite thing! Another episode of the Actuator! As always, thanks for a bunch of interesting links I'd have never run into if you hadn't pointed them out. Had to laugh at the leaky database comment. Since I don't live in either Ca or NY, guess I'm safe.

Sounds like a great session. Signed up and looking forward to it.
