Okay; sounds good. Now away from the business side of things and on to the tech side: My understanding of this is that you can setup this up on your appliance and point it to one of the syslog locations and it will pull everything into nDepth for archival and searching; however, no reporting or correlations. Is that…

That is the one I am using; however, I have it set to only display the data for my aggregates. I haven't attempted to write alerts for the data though. I have been using a Health Stats poller with an alert to go with it for alerts on NetApp health issues for Disks, Fans, Power Supplies, and Global Health. You can find that…

Okay, that makes sense and I appreciate the explanation. Is there any chance we can get this ran up the support chain and approved so that it can be supported since it seems to fulfill a need and allows SolarWinds to check yet another box on the list of items that LEM can support. Seems like a win/win to me. I just don't…
-
Thanks for providing this; however, I guess I don't understand why you would provide this and not support it? This is clearly functionality the product needs and the community has requested and from the looks of it you have found a good stop-gap solution; why will you not support it?

I don't use basic alerts at all. Advanced alerts are much more flexible and can do anything that basic alerts can do so I don't see a need to manage alerts in two different places.

What specifically isn't working? When you open the Orion Service manager, which services are not running? I ran into a very similar problem yesterday when I upgraded so I may be able to help.

NPM focuses on specific devices. If you want a graph that shows your bandwidth for your entire network you will need to create a Multi Series Cart and add all of your network interfaces to it. Alternatively, you could create a summary view with a separate interface chart for each of your critical network devices/interfaces…

I totally agree with , great contribution!

This is not currently possible. There is a feature request for this that I submitted located HERE, please add your name to the list if this is something that you are interested in.

While I think everybody that uses Orion would agree there are needs for improvements on the reporting front; I thought I would highlight this little known capability... When you are viewing an Orion report in the WebUI, if you add (minus quotes) "&DataFormat=Excel" to the end of the URL, it will automatically export the…

I completed the survey though I should point out that I think the way SolarWinds has the products currently grouped on the main SolarWinds site also makes good sense.

Service monitoring is not a function of Orion NPM. SolarWinds APM (soon to be named SAM) is what you should take a look at. It functions as both a stand-alone product as well as a fully integrated module with Orion NPM. It does service monitoring as well as a lot of other great things such as URL monitoring, etc. We use it…

I don't suppose anybody has any solution for this outside of SolarWinds? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
-
I went ahead and put in a feature request HERE for QoE to support the faster speeds.
-
Agreed, this type of functionality would be wonderful. This way we could set have a polling SLA field and set polling based on that on a bulk change basis.
-
Thanks for the quick response Brandon! I totally understand drawing a line so you can actually release something. I just wanted to put the note here as I know you guys use client feedback to prioritize development efforts and for me this would be a priority.
-
I would also definitely need to see Linux support before I could even consider this as a solution.

Somebody.... anybody...?
-
Well, I think you have identified the limitations and your options and I would agree with all of them. I am not aware of anything here that you have missed. Would it be possible to adjust your business logic/process here? Without understanding how you respond to Warning versus Critical I can't make any good suggestions…

Go to the Managed Nodes section and select all nodes by selecting the top check box and then selecting the red lettering that pops up that says “Select all Nodes”. Once you have done this go to the More Actions box and select Poll Now. Hope this helps.
-
To just display virtual systems I think the following would work; however I think the approach that Wayne took is probably a bit more elegant. SELECT * FROM Nodes WHERE EntityType = 'Orion.VirtualMachine'

Regarding your original post on DB monitoring, what specifically is it that you are looking to monitor that you can't get with APM? It seems DB monitoring in general falls into APM territory as a DB is an application. I have only brushed some higher level DB monitoring at this point but am curious what you have in mind?
-
Which server was turned off, your Orion server or the server that you are monitoring? If this was working before and you haven't changed the alert at all, then it should still work exactly the same as it did before. Are other alerts working properly? Have you verified that all of your Orion services are running? Try…
-
Well, what I can say right now is that the current implementation is causing me a LOT of extra work every time I need to add a new process to an application template.
-
I think you should be able to do something like this using report writer. Just to make sure I understand, can you be more specific with what you want as far as "volume space info summarized for all volumes" is concerned?
-
You have the ability to set LEM to store RAW log data and this includes Syslog data so if your systems in question can send the data via Syslog to LEM then you can capture and store that data for searching through later. Hope this helps!

Check out this thread and see if this helps...

Currently you have to have the full Orion Admin rights in order to add/change/delete application monitors in APM. I recently suggested in a post that more granular permissions would be a nice feature. Below is a link to my post where this permission requirement for APM is confirmed by SW as well as my suggestion for more…

I submitted this request a long time ago so it only makes sense for me to second it here; I second this!

I understand what you are looking for here but the problem is the way Orion does it's Alerts via the Alert Resource requires the alerts to be stateful. Syslogs and Traps are not stateful and therefore can't be displayed there in any useful way. I put in a Feature Request a long time back for a consolidated alert view and…
