  • Can you post a screen shot of your alert logic?
  • It was a SQL statement.
  • Rev 1 of the Technical Reference, Understanding Orion Advanced Alerts is now available. This revision clarifies the suppression section. After a quick review it looks good, I like the revisions! P.S. Forums are not letting me edit my previous response where my last sentence fails to represent a complete thought.
  • Folks, I'm glad to report that we found the root cause of the issue and it should be permanently fixed in upcoming NPM Service Release (should be released later this year or early Q1 2012). Unfortunately there is no workaround for now that you can apply without code changes. thanks We are planning to take a second try at…
  • I tried on one of the Template and seem to work. But we should not be doint this. There may be something that is stopping the APM from polling intermittently. We have missed several critical alerts in the last 4 weeks. Do you know if any of the services on your polling engines are getting restarted? As of version 10 (I…
  • * You purchase a license for NPM. * You purchase a license for each additional NPM polling engine you want * You purchase a module (such as APM) which can then be installed on NPM and as many additional polling engines you have
  • Changing the view ID in the URL should have not affect on what *account* limitations are applied when the view is loaded. If there's an account limitation on a node, then the applications and components on that node should be restricted as well. Please create a ticket for this so we can investigate what's going on. Thanks…
  • This was a great workaround for us, thanks. But I'd like to second the original posters that this be added to the roadmap/ fix list ASAP as it is a huge problem for managed services providers like us. Multi-tenant support in the product really still needs some work honestly. I think you put it very well when you say…
  • As an update on this, I opened a SolarWinds support ticket #262016 on 8/2/2011. Since then I have been informed that the issue has been escalated to the Product Managers for more concrete information; that is the last information I have. Today I have requested a status update on that ticket. I guess I am a bit bewildered…
  • Yes, a fix was provided for my problem with Groups and it did resolve my problem. I currently have 4 other tickets open all at different stages.
  • Here is what I was able to find on which variables to use for traps in the email alerts, this was from the release notes when the feature was added... Using the standard Orion ${<em>vbName1</em>} and ${<em>vbData1</em>}variable format,, trap variable binding names and value pairs are now available as alerting and message…
  • Unfortunately I have not had a chance to test this as we came up with a very different solution; however, I have went ahead and marked this as the correct answer because I trust that it would likely work.
  • Ebradford I just wanted to say how much I appreciate this level of explanation. Based on this explanation, I would agree that it's correct. Maybe SW could take this explanation and include it in their alerting logic documentation?
  • It is a known bug but we don't have a fix date. Ah, this is new to me. If this is a known bug do we need to avoid using that part of the logic or is it safe to assume that any fix that comes down the road will take current implementations into consideration? Not being able to use this section of the logic will impose some…
  • From a use case perspective, I collect signal strength for our cell backup through a SNMP custom poller. Right now I have to click on each router to see this information. I'd love to have a composite graph on the home page that shows me this information so I can see quickly if any of them are above or below what we feel is…
  • I am going to throw out a crazy (likely inaccurate) guess here... Is it possible that your interface is actually transmitting more data than the configured speed? I see that it's an HSSI interface which I am pretty sure is technically capable of more than 384Kbps. If this is the case with MRTG and MaxBytes you would be…
  • I would agree that the 3rd video is the appropriate one for our setup; however, it doesn't address how to handle additional pollers (NPM) and additional web servers. If I were go guess something probably needs to be done on the additional web but not the additional poller?
  • Byron-- Francois was pointing you to these three videos: * NCM 7.0 Standalone Installation * Network Configuration Manager 7.0 Integrated Installation (same server as NPM) * NCM 7.0 Integrated Installation (separate server as NPM) Whereas, the third video is the one that applies to you. DH Perfect, thanks Danielle!
  • Unfortunately I am going to have to do both. We have a lot of devices such as network gear that doesn't have volumes.
  • You should setup a VMWare management appliance that is connected to your host sytems. From there you can issue the following commands... vicfg-snmp --server {server name} -c {snmp-commuinity} -t {IP/snmp-community} vicfg-snmp --server {server name} -E Hope this helps!
  • Awesome! You have been super helpful on this.
  • cobrien for what it;s worth, I don't have reason to believe any of my network devices are obstructing NetPath visibility in any way.
  • Patriot I think the new model is actually much more simple than the previous model that they used. If you have additional NPM pollers that you have purchased. All you have to do is purchase the modules once (APM for example) and then you can install it on your primary NPM system as well as all of your additional NPM…
  • I just created a summary view that has gauges from several APM components. I just found that customers with account limitations based on their Customer ID (located in custom properties) can access this information by changing the summary View ID in the URL even though they don't have access to the nodes from which this…
  • Checking into the IO right now. We are running the polling engine and database on the same server, but it is Virtual Windows 2008 with 10GB Memory and 3 Processors. Orion is the only application running on this server. We currently have 8553 elements and that number has been pretty consistent for the past 6 months. If your…
  • So does the "&DataFormat=Excel " still have to be placed at the end of the url to be able to get an excel export? Holy crap, I had no idea you could do this! Best undocumented (or maybe just very poorly documented) feature I have found yet.
  • Yes, on the several attempts I have made they have always been in the same discovery profile. On at least one attempt I generated a list of all existing IP's in Orion using Report Writer and then put that list into the discovery profile. The end result was very underwhelming, it showed topology data for a few devices but…
  • The CPU utilization on my pollers is typically around 50% so CPU also shouldn't be an issue. All of the monitoirng is being done over 100MB links or better so I also don't imagine that the network is the issue. In the case where I opened the ticket, the issue did clear after I removed a problematic Applicaiton Monitor.…
  • You can certainly open a case; however, I don’t think view development is typically something support does. Support is generally more for helping resolve problems and answer questions. If you are going to be managing the Orion system going forward you really do need to learn how to build and manage views, it’s relatively…

  • I think I am going to open a support ticket on this since I am still unable to verify the accuracy of the bandwidth data in Orion. Unfortunately in order to gain the confidence here internally to move to Orion as our primary bandwidth billing system I need to prove it's accuracy versus our current system.
