If it is really a guest account you will probably also want to set all account privileges to NO and set all details views to None. Just a thought.

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm sure you can dish out the current information! I am working on a project where we have APEs in separate "regions" with firewalls in between. I have noticed that the APEs are attempting to talk to each other using port 17777 although firewall rules are preventing it. This requirement…

Thank you Richard. One question please. The second trigger condition is "Rate is less than 60000". What exactly does that mean?
-
Thanks, Jiri. I see what you are saying, but that does not help me because I am unable to assign specific units to multiple instances of the Component Statistics gauge resource. For instance, I have an application consisting of the File Change, File Existence, File Age and File Size components. The units for those are…

This is great Marc! Thanks so much. Let me make sure I understand the parameters of this version and then ask how to make a couple of on the fly edits if needed: As I understand it: 1. The query shows the start and end time of each event along with the number of minutes of duration, correct? 2. Does the query cover the…

Thank you. This works very well and gave me another related idea. If one wanted an easy way to "flag" these interfaces for deletion, this query could be included as a Custom SWQL query for the Trigger. The resulting action could be to change the value of a Yes/No custom property to Yes, which would make it easy to run a…

How was the time period for the report configured to begin with? Did you set it up for a set date time frame (e.g. Jan.1 to Feb. 1), or is it set for a slidng period of time (i.e. 30 days)?
-
alterego, I tried the first report using an application that had just been assigned to a server. I ran the report immediately after assigning the template to the server expecting the report to list NO components. However, the report listed every component in the application as if the inheritance had been broken. I then…

Thanks alterego. Looking at these two reports it looks to me that the first one will show any report that has been edited in any way (e.g. some aspect of a component such as a threshold or a query has been changed), while the second one shows applications that have only had their credential changed from the original…

I can see that whether I use the Group or the Group Member alert, the GroupStatusRootCause is available for selection in the Global variable list. I interpret that to mean that the variable should work without a JOIN statement. I'm not even doing a custom SQL trigger. Again, the funny thing is that the Simulation of the…

If I may interject please. Based on the understanding that suppression is based on a separate DB query, it appears that it may be good general practice to "suppress' using the proper logic qualifiers on the Trigger tab so as to be more specific. It would seem all too possible to create suppression conditions that are less…

Still doesn't work. What I find is that if I want to import a custom property from the Orion DB, I can scroll all the way over to the right and find the column for the custom property. It will have "ignore" over it. If I click on ignore, the drop down list does not contain the custom property field, so I can't actually…

There are a couple of ways you can tell if a node is only being monitored by ICMP. The Node Details screen in System Manager will have a large blank area at the top of the window where the SNMP information normally is. The machine type icon in System Manager will be a generic gray icon rather than a Cisco, or Windows, etc.…

Continuing with this.... I would recommend that if you have added any additional Orion modules (NetFlow, VoIP, wireless, APM) or think you ever will, I your dual core server will certainly be able to utilize the extra brain power. Plenty of memory is of course always appreciated!
-
Thanks for the clarification, Peter.
-
Actually, found that the filter condition will not work since it is an Interface CP and cannot be used to filter a report which queries data from NetFlow.\
-
Swine, Once you have discovered and added your elements in NPM, there is one other thing you may want to do depending on how invested you already are in the data contained in your NCM database. You could import the nodes from NPM into NCM so that there is maximum integration between NPM and NCM. IF you have utilized custom…

I was looking for that info recently as well. To be exact, it is located in the registry at: hklm>software>solarwinds>orion>core>HotfixVersion

Somehow I missed your post RE: Enhanced Node status back in March. In short, the feature looks very good and should be a long-awaited improvement to how node status is treated in Orion. I could not comment in the referenced post, so please permit me to post a couple of comments/questions here: 1. Did I miss the indicator…

joehanly is correct. It is a little confusing at first until you remember to look in the Syslog Viewer, but they are easy to set up there.

No one? Wow.

Something seems to have changed because in the referenced KB article, step 4 says: "4. Click the Alerts menu option, then select the Profile to which the Alert will be added." This step is ambiguous at best. There is no Alerts menu option except from the Configuration tab. Should it have said to go to the Configuration tab…

I confirmed that the poller is set as "Get Table". Here is another interesting screenshot:

You second step under "to migrate your SQL server" is not quite correct. There is no option to back up using the Orion Database Manager utility. You must use SQL Server management Studio to do this, then restore to the new SQL server.

Just curious Casey, if the version in the Program Files 9x86) folder is the correct one, where did the one in the ProgramData folder come from and why would it have a more recent date?
-
Excuse my interjection, Denny, but it seems to me you just pointed out on e of the main advantages of using Custom Properties (CP) - the fact that they allow an easy way to more fully integrate newly added elements into your existing Orion environment. Given that CPs tie into alerts, reports, web views and account…

Thanks for the reply netlogix. Did you have any concerns about enabling CLR on the shared DB and what experiences, if any , did you have with that? Did you ever have any security issues related to it?
-
No it doesn't. And I tested this on an installation of 5.1. No problem there.
-
I know where most of this stuff is, but would you mind listing the file path locations of all of this "essential" content? Thanks much.

MJ81, Are you possibly interested in some Orion training options? If so, I can contact you by private message. Let me know.
