  • Well, after uninstalling updates from the workstations you may have to wait the 17-22 hour period until the workstation checks back with the WSUS console. To have the workstation check which updates are available run the command wuauclt.exe /detectnow or use patch manager to run the detectnow event. You will still need to…
  • I am pretty sure that IE 10 has not been offered to WSUS yet. There are some people that have manually inserted IE 10 from Microsoft's Catalog, but I do not think may WSUS admins did make that leap yet.

  • I was able to create a Microsoft Office 2010 deployment using Patch Manager a few years ago. I was able to include several patches, but had some difficulty using the activation for office after the install was complete. Also, I ran into size issues with Patch Manager since the complete package with patches was about 1 or 2…
  • Never seen that before, is there anything other than Patch Manager running on that server? E.g. something using SQL Express. That would be the only thing I can think of that might slow you down with the console interface.
  • You may have to clear the SoftwareDistribution folder as a last resort for the computers that uninstall. Try to do that on some computers that keep doing the uninstall and let us know if that works for you.
  • We unapproved that patch also in our environment. KB3114409. After uninstalling the patch did come back once to some workstations, we just hid the patch on those workstations. Luckily the patch was only approved for the test group (30 or so). Not sure why your patches are reinstalling. Check to make sure the computers are…
  • I would suggest modifying the canned report from Reporting -> Windows Server Update Services Analytics -> Computer Update Status Approved Updates Not Installed You may need to modify the report to include an aggregate count of unique updates for a count of updates that are not installed on all workstations. Another report…

  • In my case, I work for a government department. About 500 clients to patch. Our help desk does the patching (me). The testing is done by everyone in IT including the managers and developers. I am thinking of widening the test group shortly, because some applications that need testing are not located in IT. There is ny 2…
  • There is a location in patch manager console to clear the tasks. Go to Administration and Reporting -> General Tasks -> Clear Caches and View Layouts Choose the Delete Old Tasks to clear that folder. Hope this helps!
  • I like the table as it exists today.
  • I do not have an answer for you, but I will be interested in seeing the responses Doug. I have always created some kind of applicability for a custom application since the WSUS mechanism depends on that to see if the application needs to be installed. You could try checking to see if you need an updated WSUS certificate…
  • I sometimes have tasks run for long stretches when one or more PC's are not connected and the task continually tries to look for the PC's that are not turned on. Just a thought.
  • Stable Channel Update for Desktop Wednesday, February 1, 2017 The stable channel has been updated to 56.0.2924.87 for Windows, Mac, and Linux. This will roll out over the coming days/weeks. A list of changes is available in the log. Interested in switching release channels? Find out how. If you find a new issue, please let…
  • We had this happen in our environment and I had to make sure the FTP traffic was NOT going through our proxy server. Since the Dell CAB files I have are downloading from an FTP site we made the change on the Patch Management Server and all was well.
  • scottk wrote: I am trying to create a package to uninstall or remove Adobe Air (it has been determined that it isn’t used in my organization and we want to uninstall rather than keep patching), but haven’t had any success. I created a support ticket with SolarWinds support looking for some best practices or an example on…
  • Wow, thanks for letting us know. We moved to all microsoft products years ago, so that is really not an issue for our environment. I would be sorry to see Thunderbird go as well. The clients for emails seem to be steadily shrinking due to more cloud based applications it seems. FWIW.
  • Funny you should mention that. I just did that very thing a few moments ago. Usually, if the update is downloaded already then when you decline the update it will remove the content downloaded during the Windows Server Update Services Cleanup Wizard process. If you caught the update before it downloaded the content then…
  • Approve the IE 9.0 updates relevant to your environment for a test group first. Wait a week, then do the rest.
  • Yes, I have observed this behavior also, but from a Patch Manager server that is connected. If I have to edit the package from Solarwinds to point to our network location, I had to change the location in both boxes. I am using drive mapping to specify location rather that UNC pathing.
  • I am still in the process of deploying the 2048 bit signed cert. Almost complete. I noticed that I did have to make sure when publishing patches to make sure it removed the 3rd party patch if it existed to get the 3rd party patch to the clients. I am slowly adding 3rd party patches as needed. I did have to decline all the…
  • I am getting this message also. I will wait for supports answer before trying a Patchmanager repair. Thanks for posting. UPDATE : repairing Patch Manager did NOT work. I had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of PatchManager. Lost a few custom views, but those are easily recreated. Very odd that it would stop…
  • Yes, that is the case with the patch manager console. You cannot see in the WSUS console, only in the patch manager can you see the third party applications.
  • Most updates of Patch Manager required me to reset the saved view layout after the update. Usually it only takes me a couple of hours to change all the saved view layouts that I had. I just thought it was part of managing the Patch Manager server.
  • It could be in the declined updates. Make a view to show you all declined updates to see if you have declined the update. The category for Internet Explorer 8 is Update Rollups if that helps as well.
  • edjferg wrote: I keep having trouble with Patch Manager not detecting iTunes on the clients. I have iTunes 12.5.4.42 on the clients and there is an update for 12.5.5.5 available and published in Patch Manager. I have published both 64 & 86 (upgrade) files. Patch Manager though reports no detection of iTunes on any clients.…
  • I think a local administrator role is needed for publishing. I have always used a specific set of credentials just for that purpose in Patch Manager,
  • Sounds like a detection logic issue with the package. I notice the package as well, but I have not approved it yet for our computers. I spot checked several computers and show that the SolarWinds WMI Providers 1.80.785.0 is already installed on several computers already. The published package however, still shows that the…
  • I have seen this behavior with some versions of Java. Clearing the local cache on the workstation does sometimes fix the issue for installing Java.
  • Did you ever get this question answered? I am also having troubles with the EULA_ACCEPT=YES switch getting ignored. Thanks for your help.
  • If I remember correctly, I think you need the apple application support for BOTH 64 and 32 bit installed on the workstations before Itunes will be detected as applicable. It has been a while since I have had to update that application. Just a suggestion.
