A huge loss for all of the people who followed him online. My condolences to friends, family, and colleagues.

Back in the day, I used ORCA to create application packages. It wrapped around the install and did the install within the MSI install process. Very complicated to use but very good. Orca.exe (Windows)

Thanks for info. Should I delete this idea since it has not happened in a while?

Yes Mark, this has been the case in most updates of Patch Manager. Luckily, I do not have too many custom views, I just set the views I like one by one till they get done. I just figured it was part of the job of managing the Patch Manager server. Usually it only takes me a couple of hours to correct the saved views.

Looks like the links are now inactive. Must be some difficulty with that KB at the moment.

You are no longer alone. I wish this feature also.

Wow, I just republished the old Java 7u55 and new Java 7u55 and they now seem to work. I thought someting was up. Thanks for letting us know Lawrence.
-
Excellent, I just used your solution for someone with a similar issue in the Microsoft WSUS forum. Thanks for the tip.
-
Gads, I may have seriously steered you wrong russo. I went back to attempt an import and WSUS brought up IE directly to the Microsoft Catalog. Then I remembered that the patch I needed was in the catalog so I was able to import that patch I needed into WSUS since it was in the catalog. I did notice that IE 8 is not in the…

Oh wow, that makes perfect sense. I had not even thought of that. Since the image we use for workstations already has Microsoft Updates enabled. That would explain a lot. Good sleuthing Bryan.
-
For what it is worth, after the update it looks like it is now showing up correctly in our environment.
-
Sure, they are up in my previous post but here it is again. Download Internet Explorer 8 - Microsoft Windows I have only had to import a hotfix to WSUS back in 2009, but the procedure should still be the same today. Hope this helps.
-
Yes, sorry I cannot be more helpful. We do not install office on any of our 2008 R2 servers. Give the folks at Solarwinds a call or ticket, I am sure they can assist with your issue.
-
Awesome, I was wondering why the WSUS forum was without your input. I just thought you were fed up with all the naysayers. Thanks again for all your hard work on the Patch Management product. It is working very well for our environment.

Yes, I noticed it was not in the Download catalog as well, but I was able to find download links from the IE web site. It seems to have both the Windows XP 32 and 64 bit versions.
-
Yes, but that would be a lot of overhead for the people importing the posts from the eminentware site.

Glad you got it fixed Scott. I had a similar item a few years ago. Still do not have AD hooked up with Patch Manager., so I do have to be careful creating tasks. I did reduce the size of the cache for the Task History down to a few days and that helped as well. I still notice slow downs when running large tasks like…

For me it is the DELL and HP catalogs that are FTP based. Adobe Catalogs are http:// and I am pretty sure the Solarwindws Update Catalog is http:// Hopefully no one shut down your ports 20 and 21 on your network.
-
Yes, that would be the preferred method to install Lawrence. Our network admin's do not give us the rights to set up such a system so I had to come up with using Patch Manager instead. -sigh-. I am glad that it did work though. Putting Office 2010 on the image and making a fat image seems to be a much smoother method at…

I have been using kellytice's method for removing Java in our environment. There are only 26 to 30 computers that still have Java installed.

Ok, the only other thing I can thik of is if the C:\Windows\Software Distribution folder get's cleared once in a while. Usually that folder does not get touched, but if it does get cleared then the data for windows updates will not appear in the Windows Update Scan. That is for Windows XP SP 3 workstations that use that…

Michael Halpin wrote: Is the user a member of the WSUS Administrators group on the WSUS server? No, the user is not in the WSUS Administrators group on the WSUS server. Very interesting indeed.
-
Yes David, that is correct. I regularly run an inventory once a week to keep the inventory up at least a week old. I can always force an inventory process on the computers that are turned on at any time, if necessary.

Good point. Yes there is potential there for Patch Manager to update Office similar to 3rd party software. They may be more complex than a standard 3rd party .msi update though. Not sure where to start to begin crafting an update for Office 365. It would be interesting to be involved in such a project. Alas, here we are…

Ok, it looks like you could have deleted that update from WSUS. You can do that if you have Patch Manager. I usually do not delete Microsoft updates at all just in case I may need them later. You could log into the WSUS console and import the download from Download Internet Explorer 8 - Microsoft Windows Hope this helps.

I have had to remove the history as well when the license number got too high. We have about 600 devices in our environment.
-
Yes, exactly what I was looking for, thanks David. And thank goodness for Lawrence, he is the greatest.

We had a couple of shortcuts and programs that we needed to add to the users workstation and found that leaving a 0k file behind in a specific directory seemed to do the trick.
