I have had to periodically right click on the WSUS on the right side of the patch manager console and choose Refresh Update Server to get the most current data from the WSUS server to the Patch Manager server. Hope this helps.

I also go into Managed computers to remove PCs that have been decommissioned. The node should have all your computers if you have setup discovery tasks. I have them setup for each subnet so that all the organizations PC's show up.

Bottleneck, looks like this issue was resolved. I think this an archived post migrated from the Eminentware discussion groups.

Yes, I usuallly unblock the downloads from Java and other apps that require importing before uploading them to the patch management.

I remember when I created my custom Office 2010 install that it clocked in at about 1 gig. And that was the DVD plus service pack 1 squished into the Updates directory. I was going to include SP3 but that would have even added to that 1 gig package and I was fearful of making a package that large. Just thought I would let…

Yes, I have had success with manually removing java from computers. Luckily we are down to about 30 computers with Java still on them.

I agree Lawrence. Much better control with Patch Manager for Skype updates.

Yes, I did notice that in the description, just thought I would let others know that the behavior has changed from previous iTunes packages. Thanks Lawrence.

Have you used the Client Certificate Management from Patch Manager? I have had several computers that needed that done to them before 3rd party updates would install. Another place to look is Windows Update Local Policy Management. Make sure that the Windows Update Local Policy Management settings include "Allowed signed…

FWIW, When I upgraded to 2.0.2207.2 my view settings did NOT change. I have experienced this behavior with previous Patch Manager upgrades.

Oh no, I use the Remote Desktop on the sidebar quite a bit. It sould be a shame to lose it.

No, just the local administrator on the server where patch manager is located.

Hmmm....interesting. I seem to be able to see the Microsoft Office patches and even the thiird party patches when I go to Computer Management, Windows Update Scan. You do need to make sure you have the office products selected in WSUS before Patch Manager can see them. That is the only thing I can think of at the moment.

Awesome KB article Phil. Now I have to peruse the KB articles on SolarWinds.
-
Wow, thanks for the modification. I hope this can be useful for people.

Of course, that is what customizing reports is all about. Kind of a community effort. Not all environments are exactly the same. Or you could just post your modified report and I can remove this one. Either way the same job gets done. No worries.

Excellent, thanks for the feed back, I may have to tweak that report to eliminate all MS patches. I knew that some patches from MS still show up, but in our envionment we did not deploy Office 2007 SP 3. I will let you know when I get an updated report.

I have seem similar instances with earlier version of Google Chrome and I had about 15 workstations get Google Chrome when they did not need it. I have not checked out this version of Google yet, but I will take a look before approving this update. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, I would like to also know where to get the exe's fpr tje enterprise 3.4.400 or 3.4.300, during the transition from moving patch manager to a windows server 2012 r2 i seem to have misplaced the binaries. :-(

That would depend on the application. Java, for instance, does not uninstall the previous version so there must be some process that removes the previous version after you install the superseded version. Adobe Reader DOES replace the previous version when the superseded version is installed. Just a couple of thoughts. I…

Make sure you are using port 8530 for the WSUS server, assuming of course that the WSUS server and Solarwinds PM are on W2K12R2 as well. Just a thought.

"I know WSUS won't deploy the Office updates," I disagree. WSUS does deploy Office updates. We are updating Office 2010 and Office 2013 currently using Patch Manager. Not sure if C2R is able to be updated by WSUS. I think the Office package itself would be too large for Patch Manager to handle.

Luckily, our environment is not 24/7......yet. So our patch processes on servers can take place outside of the working hours monday-friday 7am - 5pm. I am interested in other peoples responses, just in case our environment starts to change. The patches on our workstations happen during the workday for most users, usually…

I deploy packages with MSP files all the time. Notably is the Adobe Reader series. I had to create my own packages for Adobe Reader 8 and they worked just fine as packages with .MSP content. I have never gotten .BAT/,CMD files to work, if I need something custom, I usually ask our resident C++ programmer to whip up an .EXE…
