FOUND HIM!!

It's not like I'm going FAR - you can still ask all the same questions you would have before. I may even try to make a guest appearance now and then!

Help wanted: One new(er) Head Geek. The last one was found under a go-cart with multiple paintball wounds to the head and chest. And a hockey-puck shaped bruise on his forehead. He also might have been playing "chubby bunny" because he had several marshmallows in his mouth.

That got a lot of love over on The Geek Summer Reading List ( https://thwack.solarwinds.com/community/solarwinds-community/geek-speak_tht/blog/2016/04/29/the-solarwinds-geek-summer-f… ) The question I have is whether it's instructive in terms of an IT career, or just a good read?

Folks, I can't begin to tell you how amazing these ideas are! Just remember to submit them HERE for voting: Fun & Geeky

Not only adding my vote, but my voice. I'd like the alert actions to match (or merge with) the standard NPM actions - the primary missing action is to show it in the NPM event log! I'd like to show my alert with only the specific $varchar-x elements out of the trap, so that we can see it in the stream of other events.

You know that drop-downs are supported now, right? Not mandatory fields, but drop-down boxes filled with options that you pre-fill.

Nope, points will be awarded at the end of the month - after we've... um... "refreshed" a bit after New Years. So look for a points boost in that first week of 2019.

If you want even more #SysAdminDay goodness, you have lots of options: [PLAY] SysAdmin Day Wordplay [LISTEN] Kevin (@kmsigma) and I chat with MVP Jennifer Aguilar (@zennnifer), Solarian Tannia Rodriguez, and one of my friends and long-time colleagues Kimberly Deal about the very different paths they took to the role.…

Good catch. The old "Ctrl-V twice" trick, apparently.

For those following along, my ACTUAL thoughts on the conference can now be found here: What I Saw at Cisco Live Las Vegas

Yep. I'd really REALLY like you to join the webinar at 11:00CST today. If you can't, then we'll get the webinar recording posted ASAP so you can answer the questions. Stay tuned!

Great responses! And overall, I agree with you - in their original context and usage, many of these phrases had utility and weight. But these days (by which I mean *at least* the last decade, maybe longer), they have been over-used and mis-used to the point where mediocre managers will invoke them with the usage I'm…

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Regarding the security aspect, I'm not sure how much MORE of a hit the medical industry needs to get before they take it seriously as a whole. There have already been so many major (meaning significant in terms of numbers), high profile, successful breaches on targets that would…

I know it's possible in NPM. It's not possible in Kiwi. Hence my putting it as a feature request for Kiwi. I'm actually kind of miffed that it's NOT here, given that it *is* in NPM already.

Mirroring my comments from the other related threads, I want to emphasize that SolarWinds appears to have a policy that (if you ask nicely) they will sell you a "lab" license for any module that you already own for 50% of the list price. For example: We have an unlimited (SLX) NPM installation, and we bought an NPM SL100…

Well done. Points to be delivered soon.

You, sir, win the internet today. Please come down to the office to claim your certificate.

See this famous reply by Bob Ross: Re: Linux Memory Utilization Monitors and You Then see my Custom Poller (not a UnDP poller) to "fix" this "problem": linuxatemyram

I'm just guessing here, but 2 years ago Twitter didn't use the OATH system. Now it does. I'm betting that posting to update.xml isn't going to work any more.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!

You bring up some good points which, because of the nearness of the hour to Shabbat, I will endeavor to answer briefly. I am pinging cobrien and aLTeReGo to join in as they see fit. First, there is no way to take every customization and make it part of the core product. Development time and budget isn't infinite, and so…

Then I definitely hope you have a chance to join in this year!

I agree, but the time to stop using spreadsheets to track your IP address scopes and usage was 15 years ago too, and we all know how well THAT'S worked out.

This thread has the potential to win the internet for the day. Keep up the good work, team!

The first example that comes to mind was when I was working toward my Novell certification (CNE 4.1). Because this was something I was doing for myself, and not work-mandated, I worked my usual 10 hour day and then come home, put kids and wife to bed, do dishes, and study until 2 or 3am. Up at 6. Wash, rinse, repeat. Sleep…

As the token Orthodox Jewish kosher-keeping HeadGeek, I have to disagree.

Ugh... it's really dusty in here all of a sudden.

With all the nostalgia, I'm reminded of this quote (which will be the topic of a future TechnicallyReligious podcast, you can be certain.) “Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit…

I'll make sure to get the ticket contest out early enough that registrations can be timely as well! As with all things IT, lessons were learned.
