Just to be clear, Node Search is part of the application. it's just not on the summary page by default. Home grown stuff is great, but that's not one of them.

Very exciting way to start the weekend. Thank you!

AH... then what you want is either: * Some web-based logging tool. But that's not why were HERE, so... * NCM (Network Configuration Manager) Yes, NCM is a separate tool. It can run on the Solarwinds box or a separate box, BUT the web piece connects to the main Solarwinds portal either way. It automatically "documents" any…

Last year @"chelsia" (who is, ironically, one of the folks who helps MANAGE our social media), wrote about "JOMO", the JOY of missing out: (https://thwack.solarwinds.com/t5/Contests-Missions-Blog/Day-13-JOMO-The-Joy-of-Missing-Out/ba-p/471738). As IT folks, I think we sometimes create and then carry with us a misconception…

WOW... you guys have some amazing comments! I'm compiling my list for "Leon's Patented SolarWinds Never-say-die Convention Go-Bag". So far it includes the following. Keep the ideas coming. I may be able to convince DanielleH to create some kind of give-away or something!! ThwackPack travel mug re-Charger & cords…

Thank you for digging into this. I'll likely take another run at this and see if sudo is needed and I forgot to document it, or there are differences in systems or something.
-
For the sake of posterity, I re-posted on my current site: https://www.adatosystems.com/2021/05/21/time-zones-dst-and-gaps-in-monitoring/

Thank you to Stuartd for the shout out. That comparison is pretty old at this point, although there are still some interesting insights in it. That said, I would note that WMI requires all ports from 1024 up (through 65535) to be open. Not optimal for situations involving a firewall. So I would like to add "agents" to the…

"which sensor would be ideal" that depends on what you are trying to "catch". Any one of those can cause a system shutdown if they go over threshold. So from that standpoint, whichever is consistently the hottest is going to be the one you want. On the other hand, sometimes you don't care how hot the exhaust fan is (after…
-
Each sensor in the device is located in a different spot - some are closer to the exhaust, some closer to the CPU, etc. Therefore each has a different threshold. In the past I've approached this issue 2 ways: 1) SNMP polling - you have to poll the values you are finding AND ALSO the values you'll find in another table,…

AH!! Now I understand. Thank you for being patient with me. The user ("X") must be a direct member of the group you add into SolarWinds. Not a member of a sub-group. That's explains why the user is getting the "Admin" permissions, not the "readonly" permissions.
-
I just dug into the release notes - the ability to add Perfstack to dashboards came in version 2018.2. So with the version you're on you have Perfstack, but not the ability to add it to dashboards.…

While it isn't going to be supported everywhere on every device, you can start by trying the SNMP OID for Cisco ICMP jitter: ciscoRttMonIcmpMIB https://oidref.com/1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.486 To set this up, you'll need to create a universal device poller (UnDP). I want to point out that what you are asking for is built into the…
-
Let's clarify a few things: * You have one domain: DSG * You have one user: "X" * You have two groups: "SolarWinds.ReadOnly" and "SolarWinds.Admin" * User "X" has been added to both of those groups The thing to understand is that there's only ONE user account ("X"). And therefore it doesn't matter how many groups they…

So if I understand correctly, you can see which views are used as a specific node view by going to Settings, All Settings, "Views by Device Type". that will list out each view that is used specifically as a view for a particular node type (windows, wireless access point, etc). The only other thing I can think of is that…

Just because it's important - especially "these days" - I want to clarify the "turn off anti-virus" instruction. Unclutch your pearls, pull up your fainting chair, grab a restorative drink, and hear me out: ONLY DURING INSTALLATION, FOLKS!! As soon as the install is over, you should (of course) turn AV back on. And do a…

Just a quick update on updates: This page went up on Monday, and was updated at 8pm CST Tuesday night. https://www.solarwinds.com/securityadvisory And this page has additional details, and will be updated regularly as information becomes available: https://www.solarwinds.com/securityadvisory/faq HTH

Within the database itself, you'll find a table called "ReportDefinitions" In that table is the title of all of yout reports, along with the column "Definition". In that field is the XML information that defines the report. Scan it for the second that starts <a:CommandText>. It'll look like this: <a:CommandText> SELECT…

I did some digging, and found (to my surprise) that the database does NOT, in fact, list the date the node was added. At least that I could find. I'm willing to be proven wrong by @"KMSigma.SWI" , @"jblankjblank" , @"aLTeReGo" or another member of the Orion database technorati). Barring that, you could get there by…

Just so we're both working off the same playbook, where do you see this information (the interface IP) now?
-
The only web portal comes from the primary poller (the first polling engine you install). There's no additional GUI or website. From now on, when you add nodes, you'll see an option to add it to the primary (first) or additional (second) polling engine.
-
Our focus has been to get the latest version into the hands of our customers. That, coupled with the rather delicate nature of our demo environment (would you believe we have an entire product management team that is JUST responsible for making our demo the best it can be? They are awesome!) has meant that our own upgrade…

The short answer is that AD nesting does NOT work in Solarwinds. The more detailed answer is that whatever order those groups appear IN SOLARWINDS (Manage Accounts), that's the rights which will be applied. So if the order that the groups appear in "Manage Accounts" is like this: * DSG.Solarwinds.ReadOnly *…

Just for clarification: Do you want to know which views will display which devices? Or do you want to know which users have looked at (ie: "viewed", sorry) a view? Or do you want to know the number of times a particular view has been served by the web server (ie: "views" in the typical "this page has been viewed xx times"…
-
Just confirm for me, you want a report that * shows the uptime/availability for the last 24 hours * for nodes that are all part of a specific group, based on a custom property Do I have it correct?
-
I have a couple of background questions: * what version are you currently on * what version are you going to * if I ask you "how are your database maintenance jobs running" does that fill you with confidence, dread, or make your eyes glaze over? (meaning - is the maintenance job something you usually pay attention to) With…

I am trying to find the video where @"KMSigma.SWI" and I show this, but the late hour and lack of coffee are confounding that effort. In any case, you have to create and name the perfstack first, and then you add it by looking for the NAME of the perfstack. I know it makes a certain kind of intuitive sense to look for a…

If you RDP to the Orion server, how do you ping that website? Meaning: * can you ping "x123.com" and get the correct IP address? * can you ping -a x.x.x.x (the IP of x123.com) and get the correct URL back? If those 2 things don't work in at the DOS prompt* on the Orion server, they won't work inside Orion itself One…

(THIS IS OPINION, NOT FACT) I wouldn't remove IIS from the polling engine. The reality is that some future installer may very well just put it back. You're better off to do things in a phased approach: 1) shut down the solarwinds site on the polling engine (and verify everything is OK elsewhere) 2) turn off IIS on the…

While it's possible to copy components from one (regular) template to another, appinsight "templates" work in an entirely different set of ways so it's really not possible (at this time).
