No problem

It does preclude you from SAM on the additional polling engine. You should be able to get market value for your existing SAM license allowing you to only pay the difference. Your NPM and NTA are all good to go in terms of installation on an additional polling engine. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Yes you have stumbled upon a neat feature actually. I use this from time to time as well to see the pollers listed out. Im sure there are other ways to see this, but the UnDP way goes unmentioned. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

I agree completely. I think the PM folks do know they need to enhance large environments abilities to do such an activity across a large number of devices without having to get lost in the minutia. Hopefully we will see some of this as they keep pumping out the versions. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems…

Strange indeed. What kind of object is that? Is it a interface or a component from a SAM template?
-
That's unfortunate. I would probably open up a support ticket. When you do, you can always call them on the 800 number to get a quicker response.
-
You might be waiting a long time for SAM 10.0 as they are just on 6.0 currently.
-
You are definitely not the only one who needs this functionality. The basis of LEM is being able to normalize logs into the LEM format for insertion into the Vertica database it uses internally. As it stands currently, they only support a static list of log files. This list is pretty huge, but they do not currently provide…

You might be a little better off with the SQL server on another box and the fact that you didn't mention NTA being on the box. The future for this customer would definitely be separating them if their environment grows. Sohail Bhamani www.Loop1Systems.com

Sounds like SW is not parsing the information correctly or the vendor is not publishing the information correctly. I would probably open a ticket with SW so they can add support for this in the future. I would probably also update the device to the latest version in hopes that this would solve our issue. So there must be some sort of timer for it. Good to know!

A node's interfaces and volumes are automatically children of that node. It should trickle up from the voume to its associated node.
-
Nice. I found that post as well. For the nodes that are showing the red/yellow child status indicator, do you have the objects causing those in the group as well? If its a node related property then its already there, but if its related to interfaces, volumes, apps, etc, then it would have to be added to the group. Also,…

Oh duh, its SMS Rotor. LOL!

You would need to back up your DB first and foremost. If you had to restore, you would need to restore the DB as well as install the versions of Orion SW installed when you took the backup. I havent seen many issues at all when upgrading NTA so I would think the risk is low. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems…

You are usually fine with just a minor release or a major release, but if you wait too long, other applications you own may then require you to jump through the versions to get it all to the latest.
-
Thanks for sharing the info! Its good to know there are things being discussed and thought of. Most of us will be excited to see them in some release notes soon! Sohail

This is too cool. I always thought this would be possible as what they are doing is basically XML transforms. Thanks for sharing!

Interesting. I bet the slow down on updates is due the product being developed by NeverFail and then licensed by SolarWinds and rebadged. My hope is more tickets and visibility will increase the chance of a quicker fix. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

I agree with you fully. This is needed.
-
So I tried this on 10.3.1 and I noticed that it somehow still polled the devices using "public" snmp string. Does removing the SNMP strings from the discovery actually disable SNMP?
-
Great information. I always wanted to understand this better as well. Thanks for filling it in for me.
-
How weird. On our Orion, when customizing the Node Details view and while selecting the storage tab, I get the options to "Show this tab" with some options. I started on a Cisco node and clicked Customize Page on its Node Details. The storage sub-view does not show on our physical servers or the networking devices. Here is…

An advantage of the SQL template is that since it is running queries for each metric, the response time of that query can be an indicator of a growing issue. The queries used could gradually be taking longer to retrieve the metrics being monitored. Grabbing the data via WMI would provide the metric, but it does not provide…

Excellent. Thanks for the quick response! -- Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.Loop1Systems.com

Wow you had to jump through some hoops for that one. Turns out for me, it is just a MS limitation. No big deal. Thanks for the info though. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com
-
This is definitely a limitation in MS SQL server's column naming and not anything to do with SW. What zzz has mentioned is a great work around. Thanks! Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

You have no other option but installing NPM and NTA on the same machine as NTA can not stand alone. It is tied to your NPM install. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Maybe I should have seen that this was posted in the Kiwi forum. Sorry for a misdirected answer.

You can also export to csv/xls to populate those custom properties and then import them back. I find my customers like the import/export for the initial load out and then the method that dfong1 mentioned for ongoing changes. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com
