Onomatopoeia - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

This is how I usually do it at customer sites as well. Essentially, for a remote office we use the edge router as the parent and the remainder of the site as children for the first dependency. Then moving in from the router, we create a new parent for the firewall and have the remainder of its downstream neighbors in as…

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor Release Notes That link always points to the latest release notes. I know you addressed your question to Michal, but I am wondering what you mean by 3 node cluster. I have customers with 10 pollers attached to 1 NPM instance and their goal is scalability. Just curious. Sohail Bhamani…

Hi Brandon, Can you link us to the feature request for this so it can be up voted? Thanks

Hi Jiri, I ran into this today again with another client. A use case would be adding a line to an existing access list. This can be done inline by using access list line numbers and inserting a line into an existing access list. I am speaking about cisco devices only by the way. If the configuration change scripts were…

I agree and disagree with SJA on this one. If you went with HP OV or Tivoli, you would first be paying a ridiculous amount of money up front and year over year for maintenance. You will also then be forced to procure professional services for not only the initial setup and config, but also for any on going changes and…

Excellent! Thanks for the reply!

What is the other program you are talking about fuzenet?

Excellent work there Andy!

The whole idea behind the status of "unplugged" is to not alert against them. This is a status used so that the interface doesnt get marked down when folks go home after work. I wouldnt create an alert based on unplugged. Also, this is best used only for ports with user devices on them that go home at night.

My suggestion would be a yes/no custom property as this is truly the easiest way to handle this in Orion. I know you do not want to use them, but they are absolutely one of the most critical features in Orion and are so very far reaching into the app, I cant see how you are not using the heck out of them. Once its created,…

I like to the ${AlertTriggerTime} instead of ${Time} and you can just put EST in the line as well. It would look something like this: ${Status} - ${NodeName} - at ${AlertTriggerTime} EST Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Its a fairly similar process to this upgrade as with previous versions. The Orion services will be stopped during the process. The amount of time is fully dependent on the size of the netflow tables in your database. I would say it is worth it for the install just for the new graphs alone. Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer…

You might be able to see this if you launch the advanced alerts manager on the orion server. In the toolbar, click the blue triangle icon. This is where you will find alerts that are in the process of counting their sustain values (or what ever solarwinds calls it). It may be there if its anywhere. Sohail Bhamani Loop1…

You set the connection method to SSH from the default of Telnet? That message is what is normally seen when its the wrong protocol.

This would probably make for a great feature request to SW as well. I have run into a number of Meraki devices now out in the wild while traveling to the many SW customers I get to interact with during the course of my position. They support Cisco and one other type of wireless at this point and can always use additional…

This functionality does not exist yet. There are many customers who could use this. The one I am currently working with will end up having thousands of orion user accounts and figuring out the password change thing is kind of a bear without this functionality. As for users changing their own password, this is possible…

Sounds like you should call SW support. I know its probably stating the obvious, but I have not seen this error before in all the different customer environments I have migrated DB's for. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Okay a little clarification on this topic. When I went to an existing SNMP discovery and removed the snmp strings, it still used snmp. When I created a new discovery, it worked as Brandon described. Just an FYI. Its a little bit of a head scratcher on where the first discovery got its snmp strings from since I expressly…

I have not had any issues exporting and importing the custom properties with xls files. I have exported the file, merged data in from other sources and reimported it many time here at my current client. How are you doing this and what kind of errors are you getting? I find that the import/export option is sometimes not the…

There are so many options here for sure. Here is a post that has many dashboards shared from other Thwack users. enjoy! Show us a NOC view and get 500 thwack points! Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems

Its a SQL type filter so try % instead of * and it should work. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Try a different browser. Are you using IE? Maybe its been locked down by GPO. I like to use Chrome as it renders the Orion pages pretty quickly. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems

That would be one huge list. I can say in that all my years of working with customers on Orion, I have only run across a device that it didnt pick up just a handful of times. I have seen where it only pulls some information from some devices instead of the full suite of whats available in the MIB2 definition. If the device…

The Thwack idea link you shared is incorrect. Here is the one I think you meant to share: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/3319

I think this will be related to your browser. Which one are you using? Chrome has been working great for me. Also, have you tried this from another machine to rule out anything related to your local machine? Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

The only way you will be able to recover data that was in a custom property for any node once it has been deleted would be to restore that data from a DB backup. If you have a DB backup, then you should be fine. If you do not, then unfortunately, there will not be any way to recover that data. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems…

Currently, custom properties look to only be available for Nodes, Interfaces and Volumes. On a recent post about what we should see with a future version of SAM, it mentions SAM getting custom properties on possibly the next release. I would think that this would eventually make its way over to Groups as well. I found this…

Are you able to nslookup the ip address and get the correct name when performed from the Orion server? Maybe there are some discrepancies in the reverse lookup zones. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com
