Yes this should work. If your event viewer entries are "standard" then it should have no trouble picking up and normalizing those "custom" events in the application event log. You are lucky that you can switch the log files to populate in one of the standard event log locations. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems…

Try it out with adding the applications or even the components to the group. SW does know of this issue as was stated in that other thread you linked, so there could be some enhancement in the future. As for the number of groups, you are good. If you had 100's, then it would be more of a concern. Sohail Bhamani Loop1…

The current work around is to uninstall NCM 7.1.1 from the APE's. That is what support told me at least. I will enjoe a more proper work around. Thanks Brandon!

Right. We normally have asset inventory on every server. The shot i shared is from the node details view when looking at a cisco node. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems

Right! 8.2.1(12) is known to be good. I recently worked with a customer with a preview release 8.3 so that should be coming soon as well.

Ahhhh okay makes sense. I can confirm that clustering functionality does not exist in NPM 10.4 that I have seen. They have enabled the ability to put a poller in a remote location, but nothing is documented on the feature you have mentioned.

This was much better said than the way I mentioned it above. This is what you are looking for. If you are looking for the report files so you can edit them, try here: c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Reports Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

im having flash backs to a certain recent movie.....

Ha too funny. I get it now. You could always try to go to Settings, SAM Settings, Manage Templates. Find the AppInsight for SQL template and check its box. Click the Assign to Nodes option and select multiple SQL servers. You would then just assign a credential or inherit from the node if you used a WMI credential to begin…

Do you have a very large number of groups created? Do you have a very large amount of syslog and traps? I have seen in many customer environments where large amounts of those cause front end slow downs. Do you have a maintenance plan on your sql db that reindex's the db? Is your SQL server physical or a vm? What kind of…

Yes indeed. That is a great doc. I share it often with my customers. There are also a number of good threads here on thwack but that document will definitely get you going in the right direction. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Its a global change if you are still using the stock views. If you have your own custom or team based summary home page, it will be just for those users.

Those examples have been historically wrong in various places. The other thing you can try is in the Syslog viewer application, you can create a syslog alert to find those specific messages and just discard them. They wont show up then for sure. As nmrs has pointed out, any page can be used as a report. The issue here is that the actual reporting engine does not allow for the use of graphs in reports. I have read that SW is working on this for possibly the next release of NPM. In the mean time, you can create a view that has graphs and reports embeded. You can…

Here is a knowledge base article I found on this topic: http://knowledgebase.solarwinds.com/kb/questions/3324/Using+your+LEM+Console+to+view+and+search+original+log+messages Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

I think Mav might be referring to Storage Manager. I have used in this in many customer environments and it is quite strong in its abilities to monitor and manage a variety of storage vendor products. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Well increasing the hop count is opening another can of worms. I always share with my clients to not increase this past 0. You can cover what needs to be scanned in the networks portion of the sonar discovery wizard so increasing the hop count only adds complexity to the scan. Why not just define what should be scanned by…

Ha!! I completely missed that! Its a great post! Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Its very strange for sure. I have not seen this from any of my clients. Blame windows? Blame Canada? haha. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Yes and be sure to also ensure there is a corresponding entry in the reverse zones so both name to ip and ip to name work. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Hi, I found this on the netL: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc785125(v=ws.10).aspx This should cover it for you. I hope this helps. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

An Interface down trap from the device to Orion could be matched with a Trap Viewer alert using the "Change the Status of an Interface" action. The Interface would need to be monitored in Orion from what I can tell since its that status which would be changed. Once the status changes, your Interface Down alert should kick…

There are global interface thresholds you can set in the Settings, NPM Thresholds. There is one for errors/discards, interface utilization, and another. If your interface has crossed one of these thresholds it could go warning or critical based on the threshold. Sohail http://www.loop1systems.com

How far back of a version are you talking about? They do have a upgrade path defined in the release notes. Here they are for NPM: SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Release Notes Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Check out the read and write average disk queue lengths for the DB and Log drives on your vm db server. Make sure that there is little to no contention on that storage from other servers in your environment. The speed of the DB's storage will account for much of the speed of the environment. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems…

Looks like n_mute_reason is a custom property on the Nodes level that would need to be created in your environment to support this. This is how I am readin this. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

So when you added the device into Orion, you chose SNMP? You added the string and hit test? Once it tested green and you hit next, it should have polled the device. It will then give you the ability to check the objects you want to monitor including CPU & Memory (up top for the gauges), Topology (Layer 2 and/or Layer 3),…

Yes they can share. In fact it was designed with this in mind. The load that IPAM places on the primary orion server (polling engine) is very minimal. The load IPAM introduces into the DB is also very minimal. Of the products you listed, NTA will be the biggest consumer of resources in terms of your DB. You most definitely…

You will need 2 things to get this going. First, you will need to create and apply Universal Device Pollers (UnDP's) to gather the number of users logged in over a specific type of VPN on the ASA. To get the amount and type of bandwidth, you will need to implement Netflow exporting from your ASA. The combination of these…
