You have this version of the beta installed?

It will be nice when folks are able to poll the same information between SNMP and WMI. I share with all of my customers not to use WMI polling currently since you will not get any interface information. I read in a blog post from Jeremy that the next version of SAM may support pulling interface information using WMI. Once…

I have spent countless hours on webex or goto meeting as the vendor and as the person booking the vendor. These collaboration tools have changed the way business is handled. Good stuff!

Relief is having skilled folks architecting proper solutions to begin with in my opinion. Monitoring is just one of many things to be considered from the start. Most folks shoe horn monitoring in, but if you thought about it from the start, its much easier to implement and use in the long run.

How about being able to properly support NetFlow v9? This would be great for many clients. Currently it seems that the v5 fields are just mapped from a v9 flow packet. What if a client wants to be able to create their own v9 template on the flow exporter? Just a thought. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems

Many folks create custom properties to store the per device values for thresholds. These can then be referenced in the alert engine instead of using a static value or the words warning or critical. This thwack post shed great light on this: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/thread/41978 Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems…

Its a great release! The template editing enhancements are very welcomed! Great job guys!

Nice work SW! Keep crushing the releases!

You guys are just pumping out the releases! Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Wow! Excellent work! This is definitely filling a gap that needed some filling! Great work team!

That is basically how it goes. WMI/SNMP is used to collect statistics and ICMP is used to gain availability and response time. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

One way to accomplish this would be to label the varying interfaces with a custom property. Then you can reference this custom property in the alert engine so you can specify the varying thresholds you want. It is not perfect, but it will work with today's feature set. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems…

Agreed. This should definitely be handled by SW properly.
-
I agree. SW should give us a little pull down menu that has all these options and more on every page as well as add that kind of functionality to the report scheduler. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Are you installing the software with the same id it was initially installed with? Have you contacted support? Installs and upgrades are usually quite simple and fault free. Have you installed demo products which then get uninstalled on this same db? Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Dont mess with this guy! He is serious business!

Id love to see an AppInsight for Websphere/Weblogic/JBoss/JMX/JAVA. At the many hundreds of SolarWinds clients I have worked with, each individual client who required JMX/Java type monitoring included so much toil and trouble trying to get the JMX/Java monitoring working. It always led to support calls to SW or to the…

This would make sense to those many clients who are using Orion in a MSP style environment as well. +1

For me this is something to keep me from using an external site to see what vendor this mac came from. This helps in identifying devices and all. This would be a nice to have time saver. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

You have quite the tidy desk there good sir!

Its nice to get the alerting setup in such a fashion that you can be driven to the NMS by them. Its a fine line between too many alerts and not enough alerts. Once an issue is identified, wrap additional monitoring and alerting around that issue and you shouldn't have to be reactive the next time. It takes much time to get…

It is there in the 10.6 GA version.

You have to come ready to defend your technology domain. Just saying its good would never work in any of the environments I have worked.

I think this would be a great feature as well. I found this in the idea's space. http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/1253 I voted for it. If we get that counter to increment, it might get added as a new feature eventually. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

Interesting. It should not take that long though. I would check to ensure you have provided enough resources for not only your DB server, but also your Orion server. It sounds to be one or both may be experiencing a lack of resources. Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

It was totally off topic but my brain led me there. South Park: Blame Canada-Southpark - YouTube Enjoy! Sohail Bhamani Loop1 Systems http://www.loop1systems.com

You can do it either way. There is no set in stone method. I like to start with supernets sometimes and then use the subnet allocation wizard to carve out the subnets that I want to monitor. I also like to then add the DHCP and DNS servers so I can manage those scopes and zones. Cool thing is you can try one way and if it…

10.1.x to 10.2 is a pretty big jump as they went to multi threaded polling. 10.2.x to 10.3.1 is good as well, but not nearly as huge of an impact compared to 10.1.x to 10.2. You might be able to call up SW support and get a link direct to the older versions. I remember they kept the files available on amazon s3. In fact,…

What was the fix for this they used?

This is quite odd and unexpected behavior. What OS is running on that box?
