Guru, Are you running the Custom MIB poller as well ? If so, how may ? I have about 4k elements, and one poller, and seem to choke the CMP. I'm still running V7.8.2, so no CMP for me. I'm waiting for a stable release before upgrading.

This is the custom graph timeframe toolbar I created (click twice to see full size). Here is the code for this, which I added to the resource.asp file in the ...\netperfmon\scripts directory (This is encrypted .ASP code about half way down the file. You should be able to see what I added, comapred to what the original…

Have you played with the Custom Property Editor (CPE) yet? I would create a new Custom Property called Graph-Int & associate each interface you want to appear on the node details page with a property called "graph". You could then create a custom view which displays the interface utilization for any node with an interface…

Thanks Mav, that's good to know you are addressing these scenarios. Another invaluable tool would be a Custom Property Editor interface for the IPAM DB. The CPE filter tool is very powerful and would allow one to update custom properties on multiple subnets at once. The Orion NPM Custom Property Editor also allows imports…

For me, automated subnet scanning and improved importing are inter-related. As mentioned, when importing 1000's of subnets, there is currently no way to import custom properties associated with each subnet. If automated scanning makes it's way into this product, then there must be a tool that can easily allow you to import…

The results are dependent on the Orion polling interval being exact. For instance, if you have interface statistics polling set to 300 seconds, but your poll is late and only gets to it after 330 seconds, then you can exceed the bandwidth utilization setting as the DB could have a higher number than is normally possible…

While executing a report in Report Writer, it timed out with a "SLQ connection error". I did a netstat -abn on my server and found there were 64 open connections to my DB server to port 1433. 44 connections are from AlertingEngine.exe 5 from OrionCustomPollingService.exe 4 from SWTrapService.exe 4 from SyslogService.exe 3…

Thanks for the clarification Mike. Yes, I already have syslogs for the device displayed using the regular Last XX Syslog Messages resource added to the Node details page. I have matched the Syslog source IP with the IP I am monitoring (the loopback), so this resource is working fine. It's only this 'advanced' view that…

This is one of the main reasons we have not upgraded our SLX install to V9 (although it appears to be fixed in SP2) Also we use these graphs extensively by copying and pasting them into HTML formatted e-mails to non-technical users. Currently this is not possible and limits the usefulness of quickly sending graphs to other…

Yes, both my accounts have this set to yes. I just checked the Orion Website Accounts and noticed the account which could not see the Edit buttons showed the last login as: 24/02/2009 1:33 PM (even though I just logged in this morning using Windows Pass-thru authentication)) The account that showed the edit buttons had…

What model Cisco device ? I only see this on our 4507R's when we enable L3 routing. The CPU does not spike, but the ICMP echo reply latency goes way up. It basically makes the latency graph useless for alerting or troubleshooting the switch. Devices pinged through the switch are fine. I got the same explanation from Cisco…

Bryan, are you seeing gaps in just SNMP collected data, or ICMP as well? My ICMP polling charts are fine (polling every 5 minutes). This proves that it can be done without gaps in the data.

I opened ticket #21715 last year and SW support claimed the Tooltip editing issue was resolved in V8.5.1. (they told me to upgrade to resolve the issue and closed the case). If you are still editing the reg key manually, then apparently it's still not fixed. I have not yet upgraded my Orion SLX installation, so I can't…

I am hereby voting to implement this as well. Please consider this a must have feature request.
-
Of course you can also use the Solarwinds Engineers Toolset MibWalk tool to find the appropriate OID. I'll let you know if I find it....
-
One more feature request I'd like to see for mapmaker. Filter &/or sort capability of the nodes in the left column, similar to System Manager. This would be very useful when creating maps based on a custom property like location or application. Right now it's painful scrolling through 2000 nodes & 8000 interfaces to find…

You can also try adding a suppression alert that may help after a reboot. I do this for all my basic alerts & it has reduced the number of false alerts after a reboot: <Suppress alerts when Orion server status is not up (down, warning or unknown)> Of course, this assumes you are monitoring your Orion server with Orion.

I want the PRI usage monitor for Cisco Voice Gateways. I'm currently searching for the correct OID for this, so I can use the Custom MIB poller to monitor this. Also relating to QOS monitoring; I was just reviewing this post when I recalled another way of monitoring the QOS queues on routers and switches. There is a Cisco…

Perhaps you can use 3 ports on your aggregator - one for each broadband device? Then monitor each port and set the bandwidth accordingly?

Hey Peter, as mentioned, re-installing the JobWorkerEngine fixed the CPU utilization, but APM was no longer collecting stats. I just stopped and restarted all services and APM is once again collecting stats, but now the CPU is getting pinned again by the JobEngiine process. Only 2 of the WLC's were discovered, even after…

Agreed, for Network Sonar or Discovery we have many different community strings for different networks. I don't want to scan a network with all the community strings I have entered when I only need a specific string for the network I'm scanning. There are 2 problems with this. From a security standpoint, it is sending the…

Yes, UnDP is working normally, now that SNMP access is working again (the device failed over to a standby state & did not accept SNMP queries). I just thought that message was very strange...

Kiwi Catools has a nifty CDP neighbor query that formats everything quite nicely for Excel.

I found something similar in 8.5.1 - I have to enter the search critieria twice before it works (or detach the resource as you say). The first search attempt just clears the search box and kicks me back to the same page.
-
If you make the tier 2 & tier 3 devices part of the remote network, then you can do this. Just make the suppression for tier1 and the alert for any tier 2 or 3 device down, since they are both at the same site. Or just go with a 2 tier approach (unless you absolutely need suppression of all the devices at a single site…
-
You are confusing triggering with alert suppression - these are 2 separate tabs which are configured independantly. I have not actually set this up & tested this in production, but here is how I would do it.
-
The most performance gain can be had from tuning the DB server. Make sure you have lots of RAM (I have 14GB in mine) and fast IO disk array (I use Raid 0). Polling takes very little CPU so running both the Web and Polling engine on the same server is OK.
-
You should be able to use the Syslog Alerting to notify you when a port goes into error-disable stat. Here are some examples of the e-mail alerts I have configured: ERROR: %SPANTREE-2-BLOCK_BPDUGUARD: Received BPDU on port FastEthernet2/17 with BPDU Guard enabled. Disabling port. SEVERITY: Critical HOST: 10.10.100.1 ERROR:…

Or auto-approve anyone with more that a thousand posts.... lol.

Not sure if I'm the only one, but it seems SW licensing infrastructure is flakey at best. We have 1 copy each of Orion SLX, Orion SLX poller and Orion SL2000. Yet in the downloads section of our account, there were 2 copies of Orion SLX and Orion SLX poller and none for Orion SL2000. (I requested the download for SL2000,…
