  • No ticket number - just this feature request here: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/2304 Should I submit a support ticket request for this as well?
  • Why not just use the built-in availability resource and add it to the node details page? Just click on any item in this resource to bring up the graph of that time period.
  • The only other time I have seen this is on an ATM circuit. We have several ATM PVC's which are either 10, 30 or 100mbps. Due to the nature of the PVCs and PIRs/CIRs, it is possible to exceed the assigned bandwidth. However, in your case, since MRTG displays the "correct" data, it is most likely a polling/stats issue.
  • When creating reports with RW, keep in mind that the order of the SQL queries can affect the time it takes to run the report. Try to order the filter so that the least specific query is first and the most specific one is last. Example - Vendor (Machine Type) > Country > State > City > Building > Node > Interface Specific -…
  • I suspect these counters may be incrementing from discards due to Vlan mismatches/dropped packets.
  • I've just recently built a new Orion server with APM and VoIP monitor (I still have to build the EOC server) and was surprised to find the dropdown limitation in these modules. Perhaps I can try to put this into context from a users perspective. <rant on> Conservatively we have around 10 power users that use Orion all day,…
  • 9.1 also has a search box in web node management. By changing which columns are displayed you can control what the search box searches. Thanks Tim, That's only useful for users that have the ability to manage nodes via the Web interface, which would only be a handful of the total users. The search code I'm referring to in…
  • I like what you've done with the proxy ping Scott! We have several applications that have servers distributed nationally. I need to monitor the response times and packet loss between servers as part of the application performance status & availability. I too want to graph the results using APM. If we can get 50 more…
  • Thanks Andrew, I'll see how that works for me...
  • I second Bryan's question - what is the network latency between your pollers and the DB server. Sorry if these have all been asked before; How big is your DB? What are your Status and Statistics polling intervals? What does the Polls per Second Tuning application say? What are your Nightly Maintenance roll-up intervals?…
  • You can get one minute granularity by changing the samplesize=5m in the chart URL to samplesize=1m. You may have to save this as a custom page if you want this as you default time period and add a link to your node or interface details page. Back in the ASP days, I actually changed the default granularity for the charts on…
  • I also suggest not having an "All Nodes" view on your home page. My home page displays only node "exceptions" such as down, latency, packet loss, events and nodes above %80 CPU, Memory and Bandwidth utilization. By Including the search for Nodes and search for Interfaces on the home page, you can find any node/interface or…
  • Sadly, the Orion Report Writer does not have access to the syslog DB.
  • Hi Geoo, Why not monitor availability of a device behind the router? We have several hundred remote sites connected via VPN tunnels to a pair of head end routers. Each site has a pair of routers connected to different service providers. Rather than report on the availability of each router at the remote site, I monitor the…
  • What version of SNMP are these devices using? I've found issues polling with V3 & Orion V8.1. I've seen evidence of this in the log files in the \Orion folder with SNMP password error messages.
  • One more issue I ran into trying to import subnets and IP's from our Toolset IPAM. On this page: http://www.solarwinds.com/NetPerfMon/SolarWinds/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm#href=OrionIPAMPHImportToolsetdb.htm Point 5 says: 5. Enter NET STOP ''SolarWinds IPAM Information Service''. I can find no such service running…
  • This is possible with Advanced alerts using the Custom Property "tier", as per this post. Basically you need to map your network devices starting from your Orion poller out to the end devices & assign a "tier" number to each network element along the path to a site. So if your server is in site C & tier 5, then you would…
  •  Sorry Steve, I still can't find your Custom MIB poller files in the CSZ.....
  • Roger: Interesting information, is it possible to have an overlay flash? We have a world map with national flags representing nested maps. It's difficult to see a down status, it world be easier to see if the down overlay would flash. JB This is the reason I don't assign node status to the graphic icons/stencils (they are…
  •  We are still waiting for our security people to give us the go ahead to install v8.5.1 and that has been in the works since it was released (it was low priority to them I guess). So long story short upgrading to v9 and Server 2003 for the NPM's is not an option for us right now. I can't be the only one using XP (even if…
  • The text underneath the chart is incorrect. This has been a bug since day one. The utilization is actually 95th percentile and NOT average. It would be nice if we could edit out "Average" from this line, as Average and 95th Percentile are two completely different things. 95th percentile is used for billing of WAN services…
  • That's odd, because that goes completely against what was said by Solarwinds in this post: We experienced the same problem too. You say you have dual polling engines. The redundant polling engine comes with a copy of System Manager. You should not use the redundant poller System Manager to add/delete/update…
  • Agreed about the logging. There are a ton of log files in this hidden folder: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds My NCM server has 'only' only a 36Gb OS drive. It is running with only 1 or 2Gb of free space. I found over 4Gb of log files in this directory. with one 'sshd' log file over 1.2Gb in size. Not really sure where this…
  • How have you setup the MIB Value Type? I am using 'Rate' with nothing in the Unit field and Timeframe of 'None'. Are you keeping historical stats for this or real-time only? (Note when the interface counters are reset, the graph will return to 0.
  •  Yes, you need to upgrade your IOS. The minimum code required on your 3750s for Orion to see the Stack port is - 12.2(25)SEE2 .....you must walk before you can run.
  • Not sure why you need 600 alerts? I use one alert for all 600 remote sites, but at each site I'm only monitoring 3 devices, in which case I don't need suppression turned on for the far end sites. Suppression is only enabled if the head-end routers are both down.
  •  One Pic per post.... doh! Here is the trigger condition:
  • Well I've been running V8.5.1 for a couple of weeks on my SL2000 server. I have a few comments regarding the look and feel and consistency of this version: * Two thumbs up for the new Ajax view (once the additional 2 files were modified) * Polling SNMP using non-standard port is a bonus * Changing an ICMP node to SNMP…
  • Mitharill has done some chart customization using PHP code found here - http://www.maani.us/charts/index.php Also see this post for some screenshots - ?PageIndex=1
  • I finally ended up removing my server from the domain in order to connect to the Windows update site to install all the required files (there were 35 updates required to get this server back up to date). I then had a Domain Admin add it back to the domain.
