  • It appears Solarwinds has broken the Report Scheduler when they moved it to the web app. I am trying to e-mail a web page to someone, just like I am doing with my older Orion products using the Report Scheduler, but have not found a way to accomplish this simple task. I can only send a PDF as an attachment with all the…
  • See this post: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp This is Windows at it's best. ... You can't run software on your server unless Windows has internet access to check if the .NET service is signed & do a CRL check. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall find---> [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"] <---no…
  • Hi Geoff, Orion cannot poll custom information from devices like this yet. Orion Version 8 should have this capability when it comes out. (hint - search for 'v8' in this forum for more info on this). www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • You can do a search in this forums for Cisco IP SLA or Cisco SAA. There have been a few discussions on this topic. -=Cheers=- NG
  • If you are adding/changing/removing a lot of network elements, I would run it once a month. If everything is more or less kept fairly static, then every 3-4 months should do. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Just an update regarding database size and maintenance. I highly recommend compacting the database at least once a month, and checking the status of the daily roll-up/statistics tables. You can find this in the Web admin page > Admin > Database details > historical statistics. When nodes are added or removed, the indexes…
  • Those stats were from over a years worth of polling. Ping & Device stats(CPU&Mem.) are polled every 5 minutes. Interface stats are polled every 15 minutes. Historical Statistics Cisco Buffer Statistics 43,796 Detail records From 01-Oct-03 To 15-Oct-03 10:24 AM 0 To 14 days ago 69,808 Hourly records From 07-Jul-03 To…
  • -I, You may want to re-think your polling strategy. Depending on if you are gathering Stats every 120 secs. or just polling for availability. Here is the database info from our installation: Network Elements 3048 Elements Nodes 602 Nodes Interfaces 2060 Interfaces Volumes 386 Volumes Retain Detail Stats 14 Days Retain…
  • Yes it is strange Isaac, I just created another report (daily) for packet size & max util. time, to see if I could grab some historical data, but no luck. My guess is they collect this data for 24 hours & clean it out everytime the DB maintenance runs. You could verify this by finding the table in the DB where this info is…
  • I've created a Custom Report with Report Writer that show the average Tx & Rx packet size on our router Async interfaces, however this is not a historical report. I believe it will only show the packet size over the past polling period - 5 minutes in my case. You should see this option in Report Writer by selecting a…
  • I just searched for your error message here and came up with this KB article.
  • Just about any VPN concentrator could do with some custom reporting - number of concurrent connected users. Number of times users login in per day. How long each session lasts. We use Cisco 3030 & 3080 VPN concentrators, but are looking at the new ASA5500s as well as Juniper Netscreens. -=Cheers=- NG ~seek & ye shall…
  • Have a look at this post: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp This code works the same as the search nodes feature in the Web browser. Not sure how you would do this in Report Writer, but I suppose it is possible. Let us know if you get this going, as this would be a valuable feature. -=Cheers=- NG
  • Steve, Here's a possible workaround until this feature gets implemented; You could create a map with all normally up interfaces, using a %100 Threshold. Any down interface would cause the map icon to flash red. Conversely, you could create a map with all normally down - backup interfaces, using a %1 Threshold. If the Icon…
  • Do a search for exclusions; www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp It shows up as a separate item under the filter results tab. "Date/Time (Availability time filtering only)" -=Cheers=- NG
  • www.solarwinds.net/NoMaintOrion.htm There must be some incentive to Purchase Maintenance... -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote:Originally posted by daxvancamp I think the question is somewhat misleading ? I'm able to log on without any problems ( don't care at the moment if I use pass-trhu or not ) but after some time approx 1 day or so I get the logon page back and need to relogon. The session is not changed during the day. Sorry I couldn't…
  • Hi Dax, welcome to Solarwinds, If your Orion server is part of the Windows AD that the monitoring PC is logged into, then you can use Pass-thru authentication & never have your web page timeout. Here are a few other posts on this topic: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp…
  • I did a search for Fast Polling Timer & found this detailed thread: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp You might also want to put a sniffer on your network to verify exactly how Orion polls unresponsive nodes, as the algorithm may have changed since this thread was posted. -=Cheers=- NG
  • If you have recently upgraded to V7.1, then the install notes say you must put this file into your Solarwinds directory before the upgrade. This file contains all your Orion website settings, and gets converted into the SQL database when you upgrade to V7.1 Always backup both the Netperfon directory in \InetPub, as well as…
  • Yes you are correct, you need a separate alert for each dependency. This has been discussed in several other posts. Do a search in this Forum for "alert suppression". www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  •  Have a look at this post, it should get you close to what you want. With some extra filters, you should be able to get only outage durations greater than 15 minutes.
  • Thanks for writing that up & posting it - it's very helpful. -=Cheers=- NG [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"]
  •  Those are great ideas Robert, I fully agree that those would make mapmaker much easier to use & show more useful info. What version of Orion are you running? I'm using V8.1 & it would take over 5 minutes to display the node info when trying to assign a node to an object> I found this file on this forum, which fixed the…
  • We've never had a problem with view filtering in Orion. The trick is to have lots of RAM in the server. IIS is very memory intensive, as is the SQL server. We run a dual CPU 930Mhz Compaq DL380 with 4Gb RAM. It runs a 2.6Gb SQL Database, the Web server, as well as polling 3000 elements. When all is loaded and running,…
  • Check on the Admin web page. Select settings on the left menu (off the top of my head...) You hay have to turn on advanced customization to view this page. -=Cheers=- NG I just checked this AM and it's the Threshold page I was thinking of. Unfortunately this setting is not configurable...
  • quote:I have three isolated networks Although this is possible, they will no longer be isolated if you join them together with three NIC's on the server. -=Cheers=- NG
  • If you set your statistics and ICMP polling interval higher, you should be OK. I get the CPU stats every 5 minutes and interface stats every 15 minutes. Your CPU must be pinned for the full 5 minutes to see it at 100%. As for ICMP if there is not response to a ping (actually 2 pings every 300 seconds), then it goes into…
  • Hey Lars, It looks like you may be running into the same issue I had when trying to create an SLA exception report. I wanted to report on only nodes with less than 100% availability for the past week. The data I was getting from Report Writer was not accurate. I was told by SW support that unfortunately this was not…
  • I do agree this is a major bug, but since the old Alerting tool still does the job, I guess SW feels it is not critical. The new alert manager is certainly more versatile and should no longer be considered a beta app. Now everyone must either cross their fingers nothing goes down on Sunday, or replicate all their alerts…
