Netflow can do this if you are running a Hybrid Cat6509 or Native IOS with the most recent version of code. It will pickup ingress traffic on all your switch ports, along with source and destination IP and protocol. Check out crannog-software.com if you have an extra $10k in your budget. This is a feature that would really…

Here's one way; www.cisco.com/.../products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00800d9e3f.html You may be able to pull this info using netflow. -=Cheers=- NG

The limitation of the DB is actually determined by polling intervals, how long stats are kept(esp. detailed stats) and how often the DB is compacted. You can monitor quite a large network just by compacting the DB regularly. (see other posts in this forum regarding this issue). www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=-…

Curtiss, See the following discussion on this topic: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp If you just want to setup an alert, then configure the alert to page you when the ISDN interface is up, and send a reset when it goes back down again. Currently there is no way to suppress these down interfaces from appearing in NPM.…

quote:Originally posted by Isaac Now for my rant: It would be awesome if Orion supported the importing of custom mibs so you could monitor any exposed value for a vendors specific hardware. So, bother SW support about adding custom mib support. I am sure they are working on it but it couldn't hurt to have another customer…

The ping packets being sent by Orion are too large for these servers. You can adjust the amount of data being sent in the Orion System Manger - Settings tab. Just remove some of the text sent in the ping packet. -=Cheers=- NG

Hey Scott - Welcome to the World of Solarwinds! Orion with the Application Monitoring add-on can do all the thing's you mentioned, except for "tickling" the port on your servers. It will tell you the process is running on your server, but doesn't actually poll the port over the network. Currently Solarwinds does not have a…

I believe it is an add-on, downloadable from the customer downloads page. -=Cheers=- NG

Run the Polling Engine Load Balancer app & remove any references to the test server: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG

There are 2 lines on each graph. One represents transmit utilization & the other - receive. Our ISP bills for whichever one is the highest over the past month, & base it on a 5 minute polling interval. Please be aware, these figures are highly dependant on the data statistics summarization settings. If you are polling the…

Brent, From what you are saying, it sounds like you are trying to do 2 different things. Billing a customer for average utilization, is not the same as billing for 95th percentile utilization. If you want average utilization, then I suggest you use Report Writer to come up with this figure for the month. It can give even…

Download Ethereal and sniff your network. It will give you the PC's MAC & IP address, as long as it is in the same VLAN/Network/Broadcast domain. (please post these kinds of questions in the Toolsets Forum [:I] ). -=Cheers=- NG

I used the Solarwinds SNMP Excel plug-in to grab the serial numbers using the Professional Edition toolset. I exported all my IPs & SNMP community strings from Orion, threw them into the spreadsheet & let it run for 30-40 minutes. Save it as a .csv file & import back into Orion. CeClark has the ultimate solution in this…

If you want to get really ambitious, you can try this Google Earth integration: Also have a look in the CSZ for other map scripts here: thwack.com/.../default.aspx

I believe this is the standard documented issue whenever you update Orion. You need to re-run the Schema update tool in Custom Property Editor. support.solarwinds.net/.../ProblemDetail.cfm By adding and removing a Custom Property field, you are doing the same thing. (Your support tech may not have been aware of this).

The answer lies within - Dual core CPU frequency/power save timing issue.

I ran into a similar issue today. After rebooting the server due to a un-recoverable problem with viewing the web pages, as well as broken logins (accounts no longer working), the web interface worked fine for a few hours, and then stopped displaying all graphic images and charts. Multiple restarts of the NetPerfMon web…

Hi Ron, You must have the toolset installed on the PC viewing the Orion web page. The icons on the web page link to the toolset files you have on your local PC, not the toolset files you installed on the Orion server. As a matter of fact, you can create custom links to start up almost any application locally on your PC.…

Hey Brian, You can use the search link at the top right of this page instead of the broken link... Just remove the dash between Solarwinds & Forum in any broken link on this Forum & it should work again. www2.solarwinds.net/.../search.asp -=Cheers=- NG

Do a search in this forum for ISDN. There are users which have posted about this issue as well. www2.solarwinds.net/.../search.asp -=Cheers=- NG

How about this? - Create a Custom Property called 'RFC' or Change Control, etc. You can either manually edit this property using Customer Property Editor and have it displayed on the Node Details page, or have your Change Management Application write directly to this new field in the NetPerfMon database. This is actually a…

The only way I have found, is to unmanage the old router and change it's IP to something not in use on your network. The issue with this is it adds a blue unmanaged icon for the node, and if the poller service is restarted the icon changes to unknown. I'm hoping this will be fixed in V8. -=Cheers=- NG

Thanks a lot Ian, that's great! I started down the same road with MindTerm, but was having trouble creating the fake Cert. This now gives everyone several different options to implement SSH. We are very happy with our implementation of Putty with Orion, using the Reg Hack to make it the default Telnet/SSH client in IE.…
