Hi Leon, You can use Cisco's SAA to generate the transaction between 2 Cisco devices; www.cisco.com/.../products_feature_guide09186a008020a3c9.html It has a measurement that can be converted to MOS values; Table 6 Correspondence of ICPIF Values to MOS Values ICPIF Range MOS Quality Category…

I have set mine to auto-publish to a web page every 5 minutes. Using IE6 to browse to the site, I right-click on the page & select "Export to Microsoft Excel" from the menu. I've found this the fastest & easiest way to get data out of the Orion DB. It works on Orion Custom Report web pages as well (assuming you have MS…

Yes, you just need to know the MIB to monitor. You can monitor any custom MIB with Engineers edition, and publish the graph to a web page. -=Cheers=- NG

% Processor Time on SLX main poller - Avg 10, Max 40 % Processor Time on SLX remote poller - Avg 3, Max 18 I can't find any stats for processor queue length, just disk queue length...

Yes, look at the footer on the Orion web page for the version and SP info. For toolset open the Help Icon and select about.

Have you tried the Windows Net Message alert? I have mine set to send to my Windows AD username. That way, I get them on whichever PC I'm logged into. -=Cheers=- NG

You must go into Custom Property Editor & find the hidden refresh button in the list of toolbar buttons. Drag this button to you toolbar & click on it. It will update Report Writer with all of your custom properies. (The button will be gone from your toolbar next time you start CPE.) -=Cheers=- NG

Hey James, What type of device is it? Cisco router, Windows PC or ? Did you test SNMP from the server you are running Orion to this device (may be an ACL)? Are you using the correct community string? See these topics: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp…

What Version of Orion are you running ? www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG

In addition to NAT, you could assign secondary loopback addresses to manage the devices in each network. Of course they will need to be routable in the customer's network for you to use them for management, which may present another challenge. -=Cheers=- NG

I did a search for Novell & found these posts relating to your question: www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www4.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG [url="http://www4.solarwinds.net/SolarWindsForum/search.asp"]

Iceman, There are many different reasons for discarded packets. It does not necessarily mean there is a problem with your firewall. Have a look at these posts: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp The discards can also be caused by packets with an MTU size that is to large and have the DF bit…

I'm currently installing V7.5 for an alerting engine bugfix... Let's hope good things come to those who wait! -=Cheers=- NG

Just go to alerts - create a new alert with "property to monitor" set to reboot. There is even a precanned alert for this (if you haven't deleted it) - "Page me when a router reboots". Just select "last boot" under network nodes in the <Property to monitor> tab. -=Cheers=- NG

I think you could use the Syslog Alerting application to accomplish this. Setup your advanced alerting to send syslogs to 127.0.0.1 Or setup the device to send interface status syslogs directly to your Orion server Syslog alerting can trigger alerting based on events over time. I have an alert setup for my VPN concentrator…

Geolem, This is not possible with Orion. It can only use ICMP for node status. If the node is reachable with SNMP, then there is no reason why you can't use ICMP as well. You may need to modify a Firewall rule, or resize the ICMP packet Orion sends for this to work.

The Solarwinds Orion product has this feature, but as far as I'm aware, Network Performance Monitor does not. -=Cheers=- NG
-
Yes there is a way, but his involves a bit of MS SQL code. See this post: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Ross Warren has kindly posted his custom SQL query that does exactly what you are asking. -=Cheers=- NG

In Orion you can set the bandwidth of the interface to whatever you want. In system manager select the interface you want, right click and select interface details. You will see the bandwidth setting at the top, which you can change to anything you want. However, if you set this to 2Meg receive and 2Meg transmit, then if…

Create a custom HTML page. See my post in the following Topic: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Then you can setup report writer to e-mail the web page to your boss on a regular schedule. -=Cheers=- NG

I run PRTG on the same server as Orion, and have not run into any issues. -=Cheers=- NG

Check If your LSASS.exe process is using up your CPU cycles. If so, you need to restart the NetPerfmon service. -=Cheers=- NG

quote:Originally posted by Malvado We do not allow ICMP on our networks This is kind of ambiguous statement. Whatever you are using to "not allow" ICMP on your network will have to have an exception created to allow ICMP to & from your Orion Server & all polled devices. This should not compromise your security policy too…

You should call Solarwinds support for issues such as this. www2.solarwinds.net/Contact.htm or fill out this form: support.solarwinds.net/.../default2.cfm -=Cheers=- NG

Have you done a ping scan of the network first from another VLAN or network to populate the arp cache of the layer3 device, or forwarding table of the layer2 device? -=Cheers=- NG

Orion documentation is excellent & the interface is quite intuitive (lots of right clicking to bring up more options). For training I suggest the on-line tutorials - www2.solarwinds.net/.../Tutorials.htm as well as just reading through the admin guide - www2.solarwinds.net/.../default.htm Also see this post:…

Using IE, bring up the map page, press F11. Then select auto-hide toolbar. Alternately you can use the Windows Active-desktop to display the map. Right click on the desktop and select customize. Enter the URL for your map and your desktop now displays your map. If the monitor is the secondary display on your PC, then the…
