  • Read the first question in the "Orion Knowledge Base Search" support.solarwinds.net/.../OrionFindProblem.cfm "How can I monitor CPU, memory, and volumes on Windows NT 4.0 Servers with the Orion Network Performance Monitor?" -=Cheers=- NG
  • Vieregg, You are most likely running out of memory, for both SQL & IIS. Check the memory used by these processes using task manager. Check the on-line server sizing doc - <www.solarwinds.net/.../Scalability_Options.htm Also see the following posts; <www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp <www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp…
  • Sorry Brian, but I don't agree. How do you quantify the bandwidth available on a Virtual Network or interface? Some loopback interfaces are discovered with 8Gbps of bandwidth, but they to are virtual....? I just tune my VLAN speed according to the 95th percentile over the past month. Most of mine are set to 3Gb, and any…
  • Just be aware that any alerts you have setup will no longer be working until you move them to the new server as well. You can do this by running a custom query in the database manager. Solarwinds support can walk you through this, or you can search these forums for the query to run (I posted it several months ago).…
  • I too have the same issue/request. If anyone has Passthru authentication working with AD groups, please feel free to share here. Otherwise, I too would like to add this as a feature request. -=Cheers=- NG
  • I just rebuilt my server from Win2k to Wink3. After re-installing 7.5 I just went into the IIS Security properties for the NetPerfMon website and disabled anonymous login. "Use Windows authentication" is already selected by default. Passthru worked fine with no other changes required. Just make sure you have each user…
  • Another thing to be aware of - proxy servers can strip the passthru authentication. Make sure you have a proxy exception for your Orion server listed in your browser connection settings if you are pointing your browser to a proxy server. ALSO; When I use the Win2k AD server name in my browser, passthru works flawlessly.…
  • I did some googling; www.google.com/search This one looks promising - only around $10k US. www.crannog-software.com/.../products.cfm Looks like it could be integrated with the Orion Web page. There are a few others, but as BB says, not a huge selection. -=Cheers=- NG
  • I have just finished an eval of NetQos Reporter/Analyzer. It's a great product as far as ease of deployment and generating meaningful reports. It really opens your eyes as to what is going on in your network, especially WAN links. It seems like the following announcement was more PR than anything else;…
  • This usually indicates server congestion. It can't handle any more packets, so the switch tries to queue them up. Once the queues/buffers are full, the packets are discarded. In a "trunked" environment you will see discards when the far end is missing a vlan configured on the trunk. All broadcast traffic in that vlan will…
  • You can use Report Writer to do this (an add-on function which you can download if you have Maintenance). You can display any report on the Orion Web site. There is a precanned count query & once this is displayed on the Web page, you can right click on the report & select Export to Excel, if you have MS Office installed…
  • Opened case # 446802 Created: Searching IPAM event logs
  • You just need to re-install the resource in the inetpub folder: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp If you backed up your files from V6 then you just have to restore the one file to the Miscellaneous resource folder. -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote:Originally posted by kesteele I have both configured to poll at 30 seconds, therefore the numbers should agree. (maybe not exactly but not the discrepany I'm experiencing) Each time the bandwidth gauges poll the router they display "current" and "average" statistics. I'm comparing the "current" statistics. Not…
  • It all depends on your polling frequency. Bandwidth guages poll every 5 seconds. (default) RealTime Interface monitoring polls every 30 seconds? (I don't know the default of hand). It's all based on "the law of averages". Chances are the longer you monitor, the lower your average utilization will be. -=Cheers=- NG
  • My Orion web session does not timeout - ever. Since this seems to be an ongoing issue for many, here is how I have it setup; The Orion server is part of(built in) the same Windows domain that all PC users login to. Then setup the Orion IIS web authentication as per the documentation: Username - domain\username Password -…
  • I have kept the web page running over the weekend, and it is still logged in. This is using the NT Passthru authentication where I have logged on using my Windows username, password & domain. As long as you are logged onto the workstation, your web browser should re-authenticate automatically when the login time expires.…
  • You can only change custom properties. Node status is not a custom property & is updated by the poller. You could create a new custom property & display that on the node details page or the node summary page.
  • Using the search function in this forum, & entering 'percentile', you will find the following posts: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • I too am missing this functionality. I ran a script from the Config Management Web interface - show standby brief - on 25 routers. It then takes me to a transfer status page with 25 'Script Results' buttons. Any idea if this is stored in text format on the server somewhere? I did a search, but did not find any files. It…
  • Garry, Set the map status to 100%, otherwise you won't get an alert on the parent map until 99% of the devices on the nested map are down. The 100% status, means all devices must be up for the map icon to be green. If one device goes down, then it will change to red. -=Cheers=- NG
  • See this post: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp The whole website is contained in this file: C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Network Performance Monitor V7\WebEngine\NetPerfMon.WebEngine -=Cheers=- NG

  • Hi Matt, This question has been asked before, but it seems like there is no real solution to this one: I did a search for "isdn" & found these posts. www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG
  • Did you shut down all the services and uninstall 7.0 before installing 7.1 ? Perhaps there are some old com objects still being used? -=Cheers=- NG
  • Hi Dan, I've tried 4 different Windows based NetFlow products (including Crannog NetFlow Tracker), and I've found them all to be quite DB intensive when doing a query. Most of them call for a minimum 3 disk Raid 5 configuration for the DB disk. My Orion SLX server DB disk is already running beyond capacity as far as disk…
  • I just did the exact same upgrade last week, with no issues. Just install right over top of V7.5. As for Netflow, this is a VERY DB intensive app, and as such, requires it's own dedicated server which includes it's own MySQL DB. -=Cheers=- NG
  • quote: NG - I need a V8 also.. LOL You mean "I could've had a V8!" LOL Sometimes old bugs are fixed and new ones are introduced with a new rev. If you are happy with what you have and don't require the new features (in this case there aren't any) you can wait for the next release or for feedback from other users, like…
  • General rule of thumb, if it's not broke, don't upgrade. I'm still running 7.2.2 (even though 7.3 has improved polling engine). 7.2.2 works OK for us, so I'm waiting for V8 :-D -=Cheers=- NG
  • I've used Orion to Monitor Nortel Passport 8100's, 8600 L3 routing switches & Baystack 450's. Just make sure there is no SNMP Access List configured on the Nortel gear. You may need to allow SNMP polls from the V7.5 test server. -=Cheers=- NG
