Hi Pete, welcome to the forums. You cannot change a discovered property such as this, but you can create a new custom property which can be used to group your Linux servers. There is an application called Custom Property Editor [CPE]. You can do a search in these forums for more info on how to do this. -=Cheers=- NG…

BK is correct. Technically it is not possible, but here is how Kiwi does it; Retain the original source address of the message Normally, the syslog protocol is unable to maintain the original senders address when forwarding/relaying syslog messages. This is because the senders address is taken from the received UDP or TCP…

Kiwi Syslogger supports this. So you could send the ACL denies to Kiwi & forward everything else to Solarwinds from Kiwi. -=Cheers=- NG

Create a customized view called "maps" with just one column ~ 1200 pixels wide (or whatever width your map is). Now go to the menu bar and add a new Item called Maps. In the description/link box addd the following: /netperfmon/viewname=maps (edit an existing menu item first for exact syntax) This is all documented in the…

The sound alerting is meant to play on the server, not through the web interface. The Orion web server does not have the capability to launch a new window in your browser automatically when a node goes down. It can however e-mail a web page or post it to another web server. We just send the alerts to our phones via SMS…

quote:I know you can export it but that's just a snapshot it's not updated. I'm sorry Jon, but I beg to differ. Any report created with Report Writer is "real time" as the ASP code on the web report page will refresh the info from the DB according to the setting you have in your web admin page (might also be set in the…

Bump, how close is this "enhancement" now? I would like to lock down an account to a single IPAM report URL. This account does not require access to any other URL on the server.

I'm not an SQL expert, but have you looked at clustering? -=Cheers=- NG

Mike, Re-run the setup wizard and have it recreate the permissions on the Website. We are running the lock-down tool without any major problems. -=Cheers=- NG

See the following posts: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp This is all the info I have seen about it. Unfortunately, there is very little info on new features planned for the next software release. That seems to be the nature of most software development these days. I guess it's the only…

Apparently they are working on implementing NetFlow and/or MLS stat polling for an upcoming version. In the meantime, you could try something like PRTG. -=Cheers=- NG

I agree, the APM GUI is not as user friendly as the NPM. This is one of the main benefits of Orion over most other NPM software, the ease of use and being able to drill down quickly. APM has a ways to go yet.

I suggest you have Orion Custom Property Editor [CPE] open while building the queries. It helps to add some custom fields in CPE to make it easier to build your queries. I created one called "building" which contains the 4 digit alpha-numeric code for each one of our sites. Then you can create a report which filters on…

You can use Report Writer to create a custom query of the list of devices on each map along with the contact info & circuit ID and post it in the Area in blue. It can pull all this info from the DB. Use the Custom Property Editor to add the required fields (or use existing fields) & import the data from a CSV file. I use…

Perhaps your e-mail server or gateway was down when the power was shutdown? I can't really comment on the utilization issue, as I have not seen this issue. -=Cheers=- NG

Cisco IP SLA can do this using your Cisco routers: www.cisco.com/.../technologies_white_paper0900aecd801752ec.shtml quote:HOW IT WORKS Cisco IOS IP SLAs measure performance by sending one or more packets to a destination IP device or a Cisco router. Packets are echoed back to the sender, similar to PING functionality.…

Please see this post - the answer lies within: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp You can use TFTP32 to get around this limitation. http://tftpd32.jounin.net/ -=Cheers=- NG

Thanks Don, that worked great! I like your "Golden Watch" -=Cheers=- NG

Yes, it looks like the BPS gauges have been removed. I find the BPS graphs more useful, so I don't mind this. However some of the other gauges have changed as well The response time gauge is now limited to display 0-2500ms only. None of our network devices are over 110ms, so this does not provide much useful info down at…

In System Manager, select the View button and select interfaces. On the tabs at the very top of the page, select view> customize current view Make sure you have "interface description" selected. Serial interfaces show up as "serial". Integrated CSU/DSU serial interfaces show up as "ppp". Columns will sort alphabetically…

A device can show as down and still be polling via SNMP. It's the ICMP poll which determines if the device shows as up or down. We had a situation like this when we applied ICMP filters on our routers to block ICMP on our backbone. The device showed as down, but stats were still being collected via SNMP. I can't explain…

Hey Bryan, not sure if you saw this post, but here is another way to link all your nodes to CiscoWorks; www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp I've got it setup in Orion, but currently Java is broken on my desktop so it doesn't complete loading the CW page. It looks like it will work though. You might have problems with the…

If you don't have anything right now, then you are missing a lot! I highly recommend it for ease of deployment & instant results. Even a 12 year old could setup monitoring on a 1000 node network in a couple of hours, it's that simple! For an "un-biased" opinion, I did a search in this forum for "feedback" & "demo" and here…

I have noticed that if you open any Orion app-tool, using the large web-like buttons displayed when the application is first started, it will just crash/close the app you just opened. I have confirmed this with System Manager & Report Writer (using RDP to access the server). Just make sure you use one of the menu buttons…

Pass-thru is listed in the on-line admin doc as "Automatic Login" www.solarwinds.net/.../Automatic Login.htm -=Cheers=- NG
-
If you use the Pass-thru authentication, you will never time out as long as you're logged into the domain on the monitoring PC. I've left my session up on Friday and it's still running on my PC Monday morning. -=Cheers=- NG
-
It can be done. You just need to do some custom HTML coding - not too difficult. See the following posts; www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp I've included an example which should get you started. -=Cheers=- NG
-
Try re-running the web install portion of the installation wizard. -=Cheers=- NG

OK, Let's look at this from another angle. What is the actual traffic rate you are seeing on the interface? If the interface is a fast-ethernet 100Mbps and the traffic graph shows 140mbps, THEN you have a problem! We have e100 WAN links with 30Mbps ATM PVC's on our Backbone routers. I leave the Bandwidth setting on the…
