+1 I am looking for this functionality as well. Compare the configs on all our Cisco ME3600 switches to our golden image and highlight the differences. It can be done in a rudimentary way using the compliance reporting, but would be far easier using a golden image.

quote:Originally posted by asigiam60 Works great except that now reports can't use custom added fields under nodes Chris Welch You need to add the custom fields you created in Custom Property Editor to the Report Writer app. See this post on how to do this: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp It quite simple and painless.…

Orion will not do this without Custom Mibs. You could do this with a syslogging utility, &/or SNMP trap receiver. -=Cheers=- NG

I too have noticed some or the E-mail alerts are missing text where the macro is. Specifically using ${Reset}. Is there a fix out for this as well? -=Cheers=- NG

SwitchPort Mapper relies on DNS - specifically "Reverse DNS zones" to rsolve the IP's to names. To make sure your EE PC can resolve IP's to names try the following at a command prompt; ping -a <IP.Add.res.s> Try it with some of the IP's that did not resolve in SwitchPort Mapper. -=Cheers=- NG

The best answer I can give you is - it depends.... You have not given enough info to give a reasonable reply. What is the polling frequency, what are the data retention settings, what size server - CPU & Ram are you using? There have been a few posts on this subject already, do a search in this forum for: SQL database…

Compared to other NM software, Orion is a snap to setup, especially for alerting & reporting. As for creating maps, that's a manual process that you must stay on top of if your network is constantly changing. -=Cheers=- NG

You could do some fancy NATing on the Gateway router used by Orion. Add the old HPOV IP as a NAT address on this router. Then create a list of source IPs (systems) that will be sending to this IP and NAT them to the Orion primary IP. You would also have to NAT these systems as destination IPs from the NAT address on the…

There are no extra MIBs for Orion, only for the Solarwinds toolsets. The Orion MIB's are usually updated when a new version is released. There are new MIBs added for the Toolsets every few months, and you can request new MIBs to be added from the support/development team. -=Cheers=- NG

We have upgraded several routers recently. Rather than lose the statistics, I have opted to leave the old interface in the database, and just live with the unknown interface '?' until the end of the year. Once we have the year end total for the link (old and new interface data combined) I will delete the unknown interface.…

Check the event log on the Orion Server for database error messages. You may need to tune the SQL database table sizes. Your tables may be full. -=Cheers=- NG

I'd suggest you create a separate report for each Office location. Create a filter for each Office, based on the Office name and server name (create a custom property for the servers, if necessary, using the custom property editor). Under select fields, create a single entry for "Field - availability - sort * Function:…

I wasn't going to say it, but now that it has been said; PCanywhere is painful to use, afer having used RDP. Over a 60ms latency e100 link it takes 2-4 seconds for anything to refresh on the screen. RDP is just like being there. I use RDP now for modding all my maps. -=Cheers=- NG

Hey Dan, Have a look at this old post; www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp -=Cheers=- NG

Thanks for the idea Ian, I've actually done something similar already. I'm filtering the syslog messages from my VPN concentrator for "client disconnected". Suppress alert unless there are more than 10 disconnects in 90 seconds. The problem with this is if/when the VPN concentrator locks up or hangs, I may not get the…

See the following post: www2.solarwinds.net/.../topic.asp Mapmaker V7 works better with RDP now than V6.4 did, but still not 100%. -=Cheers=- NG

Thanks Don, The custom property is called "building" & is in the Nodes table. Basically: If Nodes.building = xyz AND status = down AND count = 12 Then send alert (or change another custom property used to send the alert) -=Cheers=- NG

Hey Don, I'm just looking for any 12+ nodes down with the same custom property. I have 200 remote sites which are being managed by another group (they get alerts for each site). I only want to be alerted when more than 12 - 15 nodes are down at the same time. This usually indicates an ISP or VPN concentrator problem, for…

Bump! ....anyone?

Not at this time. There have been many posts in this forum on this subject & it should have this functionality in the next major release. -=Cheers=- NG

I have been using custom gifs for my backgrounds (maps I've found on the internet), so I didn't notice the included maps are in jpg format. I guess you'll have to convert the background map from jpg to gif. Visio is one program among many that can do this. I save all my background gifs to a custom folder, and then…

Try overwriting the gif file in the \maps folder with the original USA.gif file. Look for the gif in the following location: \\Program Files\SolarWinds\Network Performance Monitor V7\Maps It should have the same name as your map. Then copy the original gif from the folder: \\Program Files\SolarWinds\Network Performance…

You most likely need a custom SQL query to do this. You're better off to use a custom property as the filter for this report. If the devices are all in the same area or department, then filter on that. You can create a custom property that you can enter data to filter these devices. I use Province, City, Department(owner),…

Have you tried Orion yet? It is better suited for what you want to do. -=Cheers=- NG

That works great Ian, just what the doctor ordered. Please post more like this if you have any, and are willing to share. -=Cheers=- NG

Thanks for bringing this topic back from the grave. I was having this exact problem with my laptop while at Cisco Networkers this year, using OWA to send e-mails. I'm sure everyone thought I was nuts starting of all my replies with a '?'. I just ran the fix now.... Thanks again. -=Cheers=- NG

That's great JMP, I was looking for the same thing. Now I can create my "Outage durations for all nodes over the past 7 days" report and have it e-mailed to my Manager :-D -=Cheers=- NG

Sounds like you are having issues with the mail server set up and/or delivery/routing. You can test an alert from the Alerts configuration page. That way you can see how long it takes for the message to get to your in-box. You could also add the "send Windows Net message" alert to the e-mail alert. This would also give you…
