Bo, are you using 8.5? dcl

"Network-Wide Availability" is not going to be quick on a large network. It's pulling data from the entire database, and that's just inherently slow.

Can I ask three more things about APM in terms of the alerting ability? 1. In the alert trigger, you have to specific the application name or application-component name, and then state whether it is UP or DOWN etc. If you have a lot of components in one trigger, the complex query that must be ran by the alerting engineer…

I'm not sure we'll be implementing what you're describing, but we are planning to solve the problem you have. The heart of that problem is that Orion doesn't understand your topology. Our goal in 2008 is to enhance Orion so that it does automatically understand that this endpoint is connected to this switch, and if this…

Chris, I am not entirely sure of the question, so do not want to answer it wrong and lead you the wrong direction. I would typically have a list of processes on a server that I need to know if they are running or not. typical example on windows, would be the 4 or 5 MS Exchange services. as I only have SNMP access through…

It's on our roadmap.

* Ability to monitor tasks/events that are executed by users. Could you give me examples of what you'd like to see? Do you mean ESX-related tasks related to managing the VMs?
-
I would second the comment, IP SLA has many options, including ICMP, ICMP TRACE (response time of every device along a path), FTP, HTTP, etc.

My company acquired a smaller company that was still running a v7 NPM (we were on v9 at the time). The license had expired and it continued to function normally for over two years before the server itself cratered and we could not restore it. I do believe it will continue to function normally, but without any support, if…

The timeout on the website is a function of the breadth of that report. You're querying so much of the database that it just takes a very long time, longer than the web will tolerate. So, from our point of view, to scale that particular report to really large networks will require a different mechanism, which is what…

We're still looking at your issue.

Tanks Tim, could import the attached zip as project in Eclipse without problemcan see it includes the CRUD operations stubs as well.

To get the perspective of any other node, you could write a script that tested the URL and run that script from that node. IF APM runs that script, it could get the results back and show the data within APM.

Thanks for the update

Why don't you try to uninstall using the remote utility and see if you can do it.
-
Thanks all fr the replies. I did as suggested and it 'appears' to work. I am still fighting with APM saying it is up when in fact it isn't. My icons are green but when you drill down you see that they are in fact not. For example I am using MAPI probes and they all appear green and up but when you test you find that they…

Wow, .. the 'on hold' music sounds a lot like .... crickets! :-)

This is all interesting but it still doesn't make any sense. Look.. What is the mystery behind the numbers? Given the following: Elements 4910 Network Node Elements 1116 Interface Elements 3679 Volume Elements 115 Where do you get 8539 or 4910 and why would those numbers be the same for both ICMP and SNMP. If you trying to…

Originally we were using a load balanced solution, where the connection went to a load balancer that forwarded to a few backend servers - but what's served from LEM is all self-contained in the LEM appliance. At this point, we've reduced to 1 server to try to remove load balancing issues from the equation, assuming there's…

So what are we still missing?

From Dev: Memory usage from guest is the value reported to us from the ESX server. Of the RAM on the ESX server, how much RAM is actually being used by the VM from the ESX server’s perspective. Under disk volume, the "physical memory" is a value acquired from the Windows server itself. The Windows server “doesn’t know”…

This sounds something which I could take a look when I become more familiar with the alerting. So could you please share your script? Thanks!
-
Well, with so few monitors, we're not sure. Could you run Diagnostics, open a Support Ticket, and attach the diagnostics to the ticket?

It's not clear whether or not you can practically access the Windows Service list without Admin rights. Like you, we've read through Microsoft's documentation, and we can't get it to work. It may be possible but difficult, but you'll have to look to Microsoft's documentation and support to figure that out since it's their…

We are running MX960 and MX480 on the core, M120 and M10i at the edge, EX4200 on the LAN, SA2500 for remote access, SRX240 and SRX210 for our firewalls. Any assistance would be extremely helpful.

Byrona's method for correcting this worked for me as well. Thanks.
-
Thanks Josh... actually the first test I was trying to work with was using an existing server which had Outlook already installed and working on it. I could not get the MAPI APM to work at all. The only way was to install the MAPI client on the Orion sever which finally started to work - although slowly (as reported). Any…

Where do I get to the MS TCP interface? Is that via custom mibs? if you do a list resources it should be in the list. no custom MIB was needed.

You are correct, IP SLA is a Cisco feature embedded in their images (e.g. routers/switches). There are comparable stand alone or pure play vendors who can provide equivalent synthetic VoIP traffic generation to measure path or call quality metrics either via software agents or appliances. However if you have a customer who…

It's a nuisance to have to log into the server and run report writer, export the file, etc. Option 4 and ditto what Bryan said.
