You have only 2 options. How long to keep compressed data, which you should keep as long as you want to be able to look back. Keeping uncompressed data. The default is an hour, and that should work for almost everyone.

In my environment, NPM server and database server are virtual machines. And there is no redundant database server. Database server has 6GB RAM and 2 processors.

I don't have that problem specifically, our issue is that certain office files prompt for credentials before opening through IE (10 and 11). And another popup window shows up with the download URL. Then it doesn't later on. Weird stuff...
