You need to contact Solarwinds sales directly but my experience is that you pay the difference in the two versions pricing. That may or may not still be the case. Regards, Roger

Or Mercury SiteScope instead of MOM... I've seen mention of one of the upcoming Orion Management packs that eludes to content match functionality if you read it right, but no concrete details of what the functionality is. Don Yonce, can you jump in here? -Roger

I'm not seeing it in my configuration, which is Orion on the front end talking to a MSSQL database machine behind it. Running 473 nodes at the moment, with some polling as short as 30 seconds. Some more information on your configuration may be helpful so that others can jump in, like version, number of nodes, SQL or MSDE,…

We solved it by actually upgrading to the latest version of net-snmp. The included version in RHEL4 is actually a bit dated. -R0ger

Depends on what you're monitoring. Case in point being Apache on a Linux box, it will spawn multiple httpd entries and if you do not turn off "Log Application Stop/Start Events" for httpd you will be flooded with alerts as it spawns and shuts down new instances. The master service istelf will still flag/alert if it fails…

quote:Originally posted by DannyMc I monitor my private and public networks from a single Orion box. I have a static map and rule on my Pix to allow logging and snmp between Orion and the public devices. I do the same. I'm doing it with multiple NIC's in the Orion box. Everything is behind a NAT firewall with some…

quote:Originally posted by mgibson I have SLX. Yes the 2G limit is easily reached as I experienced this with the ToolKit. May I suggest you use the enterprise Version of the O/S or you will also be limited to 2GB of Memory! I'm curious where you got this number? MSSQL Standard supports more memory than 2gb, albeit with a…

Still no hooks into the Application Management pack? -Roger

Solarwinds runs on W2003SP1 with the only issue being that the configuration wizard needs to be added to DEP for it to run. (Machine Properties/Advanced/Performance Options/Data Execution Prevention) Both my 7.8.2 machine and the SQL server behind it are running W2K3 with all the latest patches with no issues. Hope that…

When you say "the database Orion provided" are you referring to the MSDE version, or the NetPerfMon database framework that's created on a "real" SQL server when the product is installed? If a real SQL box, do you have SA access or another login that has db_owner access to the NetPerfmon database? After that there's always…

I think you need to be more specific on what you're trying to achieve. On a HSRP standby group, ie: between two Ciscos, you can point Orion at the VIP that you are using for the standby group, and the ping will be indicative of the VIP but deeper SNMP polls are only going to get you the interface information of the active…

I'm monitoring 19 Netscreens with no issues, three of which are 5.3.0r1. Do you have a route in the NS's routing table for the Orion box? Since the SMNP is a management function, it's the same as hitting the admin interface where if the NS is in Route/Nat mode you need an explicit route for the management (Orion) station.…

quote:Originally posted by aLTeReGo I don't believe that DNS reverse lookup is used for Syslog. It seems like the Orion node name is what is used. Can anyone @ SolarWinds confirm/deny? Appears to with mine, as I get different entries based on whether I have PTR records set correctly.
