  • Well, it took a bit, but it is finally working. I wont know if the DB problem is related to the problem I had for a while, hoping it is resolved. Here is what happened, so anyone who is going to install this, or upgrade, needs to keep this in mind until they fix the current installation program. I run a 64 bit Win2K3…
  • OK, this has been fully resolved. It was a hung job that was the reason they weren't backing up. I also noticed that Orion no longer saves a copy of the backup when it runs like it used to. Whenever it ran prior to 7.5, it would keep a copy of that config whether there was a change or not, so looking at the configs I could…
  • Well, Orion is finally working properly once again, so it will be a matter of time to see if that also corrected the SQL problem. At least now I can poll through the web interface and see the charts for response times, so goo chance that is all it takes.
  • Absolutely Perfect !!! This is exactly what I was looking for. 1000 Internet awards to you!
  • Thanks, I opened a support ticket after trying the license manager and it failed.
  • I am wondering if the job itself was hung. I went to jobs and found the nightly backup was stuck at running 0%. I could not disable it, but it finally disabled after I clicked stop a few times. I reconfigured the job by adding an email notification and then re-enabled it, so now it shows as scheduled, so will see if it…
  • OK thanks, that answers that question too. I have some work to do, it has been quite a while since any maintenance was done on the system. In the latest version, can alerts be configured through the web interface yet, or are they still done on the server?
  • Fixed, I copied the common folder over to my D drive where the program is actually installed, works now.
  •  Yes it is there. From the log 2008-09-24 14:39:30,965 [1] DEBUG NPMBusinessLayerProxy - Finish creating business layer 2008-09-24 14:44:30,051 [1] ERROR CustomPollerManagerController - Getting icons - Unable to determine Mibs.cfg location 2008-09-24 14:44:30,066 [1] ERROR Program - Unhandled exception.…
  • I turned it off, no change, service is still flapping. This is getting frustrating.
  • Well, now that I got it to connect, the database is empty. What did I do wrong?
  • Well, you dont need to fat finger something to lose the configuration. We had a customer with a 5510 that suffered from that bad memory issue Cisco has, and bricked the ASA. If we didn't have NCM backing it up, we would have had to configure it from scratch on what we remembered, which was not much considering it had…
  •  Is it normal for the pages to load so slowly? When I first log in it takes at least a minute or two to load. I am seeing about 15 seconds to change views under account views, which itself took several minutes to load.
  • Yep, still works, in fact when I pull up resources, they all come up green. Orion has no problem communicating with the routers, but for some odd reason the interfaces are unknown. I see nothing to indicate SNMP failing or being blocked.
  • That worked for SQL, but I will need a simplified output for their weekly meetings. I ran it in the Solarwinds Database manager, how do I export the query then?
  • unrelated to the drive installation problem, just something that cropped up after the install. I know during the install tht SQL was modified in some way, whether that modification is what is causing the memory issues now, I dont know. For all I know, MS SQL could just be doing what MS does best, work when it wants to.
  • Excellent, then I will wait until it is released. No sense doing it twice.

  • I just went through the same problem upgrading from 9.1 to 10.1.1. They missed the part about installing on a drive other than C: in this latest version, and some file locations get messed up. They were able to correct my install, but may have impacted other 32 bit apps, only time will ell if that happened, though the only…
  • You have to spend time to fine tune the alerts to limit the amount of junk you get. I also found that I can write a report for alert history based on the neighbor down in report Writer, which gives me a readout of downed events over 7 days. It is a daunting task, but once you weed out the noise, it is worth it.

  •  I found something interesting, not sure what it relates to though. I compared the database users on the running Orion server to the backup server that will be running the new Orion database. The users have no login name on the new database. Could that be the problem? EDIT: Finally I got it working. I drilled through all…
  • Agree 100%! PCI is a royal PITA. Using NCM with its built in configuration change management along with its vulnerability detection, and other policy checks seems to be a better approach than SNTC. Since it is in house, if you blow up your firewall, and the backup configs are on the TC site, and you have no way to reach…
  • Got it working. Didnt see that part in the help files about copying the contents from the root to the user folder. It works as planned, thanks.
  • I click on the graph under the serial details and choose 30 days from the drop down, and data from every 30 minutes, resize the window to 1024 and click refresh. Not quite sure how to put a screen shot here, Im using firefox.
  • Originally I was thinking of setting SAM up in AWS and keeping NPM down locally, but looks like it will be all on one box now that I have done some testing. At some point I will need to move the DB off the server it is currently on since it will be going away, and will be going to a smaller server more suitable for this…
  • Bingo, that is what I was looking for. Worked perfectly and found a flaw in our routing too!
  • OK, so there were changes made to how upgrades are done. That explains the lack of files under my login. I saw something regarding an SLAX license key, not sure what that is. Is Netflow now part of Orion?
  • Did tha patch, still not working. I do not run additional pollers, just a single poller. Going to run the configuration wizard and see, if not, then open a case with SW.
  •  I tried to post a new thread, but it isnt working. In direct response to the UDP, When I start the UDP program I get an error, Unable to determine Mibs.cfg location, click OK and it doesn't run but closes. One other odd thing is the Icon for the NPM on the desktop is missing and I cant find it. Thing to Note, the Icon…
