Now that APM 4.0 is out the door, we're already hard at work on the next set of highly requested enhancements.

Java monitoring
More out-of-the-box Linux/Unix monitors
Better Nagios support
- Ability to import scripts that return multiple values
- Ability to import other scripts (like Windows) or leverage queries that return multiple values
Dell and HP Server support - integrating with Dell OpenManage and HP Insight Manager
Non-SNMP based discovery of Windows machines
- Discovery of Windows machines and metadata about those machines without having to rely on SNMP
- Modify contents of an application template based on what's discovered
Best practices on what to monitor for a given application
- Updated templates identifying what's important to monitor and why
- Prescribing thresholds for a given performance counter based on industry best practices and/or recommendations from application vendors
- Including this information in alerts
Multiple Object Chart - same as the new multiple interface chart for NPM, but now you'll be able to select multiple applications and/or components to view on the same chart

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT a commitment that all of these enhancements will make the next release. We are working on a number of other smaller features in parallel. This list is also subject to change. Any GUI enhancements to address usability issues?

DELL & HP agent support - can you elaborate as to why that made it's way into APM and not NPM?

Import APM_Templates_LinuxPerl a couple days ago.

Q: In Linux/Unix monitor, script monitoring, does solarwinds open one SSH session for every call (parameter). For instance, in "Linux Memory Monitoring Perl", it has 11 parameters so solarwinds will open 11 SSH sessions to collect data since one value is returned from each perl script?

Does the Nagios support will also apply to able to return "multiple values from script" ?

R Lee, you are correct. Each component opens its own SSH session and uploads its script.

You can, if you like, manually copy a script to /etc/script.pl or similar and change the command line appropriately. Orion APM will still open an SSH session for each component, but the data transfer will be lessened.

All component monitors currently return only one statistic. There is a comment that can also be returned, but nothing in the comment is used for graphing or charting.

I'm just starting to deploy Orion APM and NPM in my environment of 150 Dell servers. Unfortunately, Orion doesn't have a good integration with OMSA and I'm having to do stupid workarounds to get basic statusing in. And as far as capturing good information from OMSA, it's extremely painful.

It would help to know a little bit about what's to come. If it's promising, I can hold off on a painful deployment.

Unfortunately we can't provide release dates or even timeframes. However, the general idea is that we will take performance data from OpenManage and Insight Manager respectively and expose that data in the APM web console.

Hello, i´m a new user of solarwinds. I have you a question about the APM. Can i monitor process of GPO (Group Policy Object) with the active directory template? is it included in the template? thank you and blessings.

Hello Daphne, and welcome to SolarWinds!!

Group Policy Objects are not currently included in the APM Active Directory template. They do have WMI counters under the class \\root\rsop namespace, so you could monitor them by creating a vb script.

Microsoft has a tool that writes WMI scripts called Scriptomatic - I highly recommend it! It's a free download here.

Also, this will give you an overview of all the Group Policy Object classes available.

Is there any talk of making application monitors that run in IPv6? Sure, I can do a built-in HTTP app monitor to my IPv6-addressed HTTP server, and that is great, but my IPv6 resident experts say that the internals of that monitor are still running IPv4. The interest here is for DNS and HTTP/HTTPS app monitors that leverage or use IPv6 features. Is this on the futurescape for APM?

SAM is what we renamed APM. Some might think we just wanted an acronym we could say aloud
