Unable to add Server description from Active Directory attributes to the email alert template?

Folks,

I need to be able to pull the information from the Active Directory users and computers console into the Solarwinds email alert.

Because it is hard to analyze or remember the server name and its functionality without the meaningful description.

How can I achieve that?

You would likely need to export the properties from Active Directory and import them as Custom Properties into Orion.

the value can be retrieved using:

<span>(Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_OperatingSystem).Description</span>

Orion does not include a native ability to fetch/poll arbitrary string values to populate custom properties. You could certainly do this as part of a script though. In PowerShell for example..

yes, looks like it will be cumbersome to loop through thousands of AD object, and then translate it for the :

$nodeId = 8 # NodeID of a node which custom properties you want to change
$ifaceId = 58 # InterfaceID of an interface on the node

that's just one example for one specific node.
