Volume Data (IOPS) for physical servers

Hello,

I was wondering how are you monitoring your volume performance for physical servers? We are using DELL hardware so we are forced to poll nodes via SNMP to get the hardware info, however we lose the Volume data in this way (volume performance can only be polled via WMI).

Is it possible to force volumes to be polled via WMI and leave the hardware part for SNMP? Or maybe we can install agent and get volume data from it (however will we be able to keep hardware info?)?

I know that I can create a custom poller (or component) and get data from there but I would like to keep it in clean and nice form (preferable with something out of the box).

If you switch to WMI you should be able to monitor all hardware health but RAID Controller's/Physical disk, which the above template (Dell Server - Storage Hardware Health v1.2) rectifies that.

Hi Jakub,

I've created a template based on other users' templates which allows you to monitor the Dell Physical servers by regular Agent/WMI based but also implement a SAM monitor (leveraging a free SNMP library) to get disk and RAID controller based statistics.

PS: some users have reported incompatibility issues with Windows 2016 and PowerShell scripts, though I've yet been able to identify them myself

I've completely misread your first message, I thought your intention was to monitor the physical layer (RAID Controller and the physical drives), which the above template is used for.

By using WMI polling method, you should still be able to monitor disk performance from the OS level. On the Node details page, when you click on 'List Resources', do you see any of the volumes listed?

The problem here is that we are forced to use SNMP on physical servers (those are DELL servers) otherwise we won't get any hardware information which is more important to us.
