Hi Guys,
Can I delete the MSMQ folder without any data loss or is there any step-by-step procedure regarding this?. Thanks!
Hello!
Yes, you can delete the .mq files to reduce the size of the directory. Sounds like you have already found the relevant KBs but just in case here they are:https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/Delete_.mq_files_in_the_MSMQ_folder
Unable to start MSMQ service after deleting files from MSMQ folder - SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Help and Support
If you find this happens a lot, you can increase the queue size over 1GB. https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/Polling_-_MSMQ_Information_and_How_to_In…
Bring up Computer > Manage and check the SolarWinds private queues. If there is a large number of messages there, there will be data loss. If it's all 0 or near 0, there will be no or minimal data loss.
HolyGuacamole,
There are private queues referring to solarwinds, however when I check the queue messages of each private queues, there are no items to show on the view.
These queues are for temporary storage in the event the Orion server is unable to communicate with the SQL server. These queues should be low or empty at all times, but should not be deleted.
Hi GoldTipu aLTeReGo
From past 1 week I m seeing an increase of the msmq folder by 1 GB. So do I need to delete the .mq files as per one of the KBs? Or there are any other steps?
So this increase in MSMQ doesn't affect the polling in anyway, right? Coz I read somewhere about this in SAM monitor.
No, it won't impact your polling to make the directory bigger, although if you still see issues with files not being deleted it might be time to give support a call. Also if you monitor the directory with a file size monitor like in the screen shot above, make sure you adjust the threshold to whatever you changed the size to, so you don't get incorrect warning/critical statuses.
