SQL and Oracle Monitoring - SAM

Question

Is anyone able to get the SQL, the AppInsight and/or the Oracle App templates to work? Im not a DBA but if my WMI account has admin rights to the box and is added in SQL Management studio as a admin user, why is everything coming up grayed out? I can understand red as that service may or many not be used.

For Oracle its giving me a message:

The Oracle Client software must be properly installed to use the Oracle QA Monitor.
Component uses following Oracle Client Driver: MS_ORACLECLIENT. This particular Oracle Client software can be downloaded from the SolarWinds Customer Portal under Additional Components, or directly from Oracle website.
Underlying exception message is: 'Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. 
System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.'.

I'm not a DBA, and I have sent this to their group, but is this a simple install to get working? Or does this Oracle Client driver install require a reboot etc of the DB/instance/server?

I am using WMI, I can view the real time process explorer and the service control manager via WMI

For AppInsight for SQL the polling user needs sysadmin rgihts in SQL

or for least privilege monitoring of SQL follow this KB

To build on tomasv​ reply, is this SQL Server have SQL Server Analysis Services installed? Based on the screenshot, the single down component indicates that the service is either not running or not installed at all. The other unknown (aka gray components) appear to be perfmon counters and are most likely specific to SQL Server Analysis Services. If the service is not installed then it would make sense for these counters report unknown for not existing.

You will want to use AppInsight or the standard SQL Server 2012 Performance (WMI) templates.

Hi,

prerequisites for monitoring using SQL AppInsight are described here - AppInsight for SQL requirements and permissions.

The minimum SQL permissions required to use AppInsight for SQL are as follows:

Must be a member of the db_datareader role on the msdb system database

* Must have VIEW SERVER STATE permissions.
* View any definition.
* Connect permission to Master database.
* Execute permission on the Xp_readerrorlog stored procedure.
* Connect permission to the Msdb database.
* Must be member of db_datareader role in the Msdb database.
* Connect permission to all databases.

But your screenshots doesn't show SQL AppInsight but some other template ....

For monitoring Oracle DB you will need install Oracle Data Provider to Solarwinds Orion server. So definitely no reboot etc of the Oracle DB/instance/server. You need install it to Orion server, not to Oracle server.
