lsass.exe process trashing server. 100% CPU load all the time

I’m running a trial of NPM and APM on a VMware VM running on an ESX3.5 server. The VM, Windows 2008, has 2 CPU and 4GB RAM allocated to it. SQL 2008 runs on the same box.

I have 92 Windows servers, 1 VMWARE ESX box and 3 NetApp filers. APM says I have 160 Application Monitors. I’m using some Citrix, Windows and Exchange application monitors.

The lsass.exe process is averaging nearly 90% CPU all. IS anyone seeing this?

Is SQL running on a VM? If so, this will not work well.

SQL is running on the same server as NPM and APM, I'm using 56% of available RAM and I can see from the overninght graphs that the CPU has been runing at an average of 90% overnight. SQL server has only been using around 3%. Disk activity isn't that high

Why is the LSASS.EXE process taking so much CPU time? I'v also had a test running for an APM template checking the MS POP3 Monitor for Exchange 2003 which has been pending for 16 hours.

What is the issue with SQL running on a VM? We are not using local storage on our servers, all our storage is on NetApp filers via gigabit network connections. We don’t see any performance issues with our Exchange clusters which have a high disk I/O.

I’m also getting time outs on my Exchange 2003 checks but they work fine when they are tested under the template admin pages.

I can’t justify to my mangers spending the money for 2000 NPM and unlimited APM modules if it can’t be shown to work. Especially if hardware has to be purchased to run it; when we have already made a significant investment in VMware. CPU constantly jammed at 100% with lsass.exe using most of that doesn't fill me with confidence.
