Pingdom speed test - No CDN detected

Hello!

I'm one of the Senior Tech Leads at Pressable. We recently transitioned away from our legacy CDN service in favor of our Edge Cache system. This solution not only caches static assets but also full pages, serving them from edge servers located in the same regions as traditional CDN nodes.

However, we've noticed that some speed testing tools are reporting "No CDN detected" for sites using Edge Cache. We suspect this may be due to our system serving assets from the customer’s domain rather than a traditional "cdn" subdomain or URL structure.

To clarify, our Edge Cache does function as a CDN, delivering content from the edge node closest to the visitor. We recommend verifying its presence by checking for the x-Ac response header, which is added by our Edge Cache servers. This header can be used to confirm that content is indeed being served from our CDN-like infrastructure.

This Edge Cache system is used broadly across hosting providers that leverage WP Cloud infrastructure. This could become a common concern for many customers across many hosting providers if speed tests continue to overlook CDN functionality based solely on URL patterns.

Pingdom support recommended I post here so that this can be brought to the attention of your product and marketing teams. We'd appreciate any consideration to enhance detection methods to reflect modern CDN implementations like ours — and we’re also eager to hear from others experiencing similar issues.

Thanks in advance for your time and any insights you can provide!

Best regards,
Greg Swaney
