How can I use a Universal Device Poller to change the state of a node

I had to create some Universal device pollers to support my Raritan PDUs. I have been able to create them and associate them to the device and view properly. I have created alerts that work when an amperage threshold is crossed. What I can't figure out is how to make the node go warning or critical based on the amperage alert. I keep looking and poking around but there is nothing in the alert that works and I'm not sure where else to look.

Status Polling is one of the default information NPM gathers. It would either be ICMP, SNMP or Agent Polling. UNDP does not qualify as one of the Polling Method. UNDP is used for information that Solarwinds does not natively Poll.

In the newer versions of NPM / Orion, they added the ability to change the default node status calculation. It's called Enhanced Node Status. Once it's enabled it allows you to customize what child objects affect the parent nodes' status under Settings --> Node Status Contributors. I can't say for certain if that includes UNDP's but it appears to. It has the option 'Node Custom Pollers' in there. Worth looking at and testing...

Maybe via an alert action? ie: have the trigger condition for the alert based on the custom property that you are polling. Then in the trigger action choose the "Set Custom Status" action. That will let you set the status indicator of a node to whatever you want. This is an "advanced use only" so it may behave a bit funky and you'll probably have to play with it a bit.

I've never used it myself, so I'm not sure what pitfalls you might run across, if any!!
