Hangs when Remote Desktop from XP

Whenever I remote desktop from my laptop which is windows XP I get an fault app error with dllhost.exe in the event log and a COM SURROGATE error screen appears. Orion is on a Win2003 standard server, and once this happens Orion doesn't poll, gather stats or update the web page. I've looked all over for a reason why (even microsoft). Does anyone have any idea why this happens. Remote desktop is essential for me to use. Also the company is only interested in freeware if there are any that may help.

Hi!

Have you tried to access the server in Console mode? I.e. in the dialog box asking which server to connect to write 'fqdn.hostname.com /Console'.

This doesnt work with standard Remote Desktop in XP, needs the 2003 version of Remote Desktop thats downloadable from MS (www.microsoft.com/downloads & search on remote desktop)

We had a problem also with remote desktop and TS on our orion server. Turns out the problem was caused by remote desktop trying to map a printer that could not be mapped from your error message I would guess that TS is trying to map a com port. Turn of the mapping features in both remote desktop and on the server.
