The DNS name on Node Details is wrong for our firewall. For some reason it has the name of a server. Where did Solarwinds get this name from? If I do a ping with the -a, no name is returned so why does Solarwinds think it has a name?
If you do an nslookup from the command line on the Orion server, what do you get?
Is says it can't find it. "Non-existent domain"
I have the same issue. Was there a resolution?
swebster-towson check with your team who manages DNS entries for devices. If its not updated on the DNS server which Orion contacts, then it will show wrong entries on console as well.
We had encountered same but in our case nslookup was showing up a name which was wrongly updated at DNS level.
We got the same issue, but communicating with our DNS Team resolved the Problem. It was a wrong entry.
pratikmehta - thanks for your response, I didn't think anyone would respond to a 7-year old thread...
I'll be checking the DNS servers as soon as I get access to them, do you know what needs to be done on them? I would guess I just need to create 'A' records for each device in my LAN.
Well just an entry has to be created for the device. Your server or network team should be able to help you out.
I also had a similar issue - it turned out that the DNS was missing the PTR record for the device. After the record was fixed, deleting the node and re-adding it fixed the problem.
The other, probably less likely possibility is that someone manually entered a name in the past and it's stuck. Edit the node's properties and clear out the name to let Solarwinds re-add it based on DNS/SNMP/etc.
