No alert notifications

I posted yesterday about having a problem with being unable to add actions to basic alerts - that problem was fixed by a simple reinstall.
But now what is happening is that I can see the alerts are being triggered but NO notifications of any kind are being sent. For testing purposes I have it set to email me and send a net message. I set several alerts to extremely low parameters.. in theory I should have been buried under messages.
I tried testing alerts.. several kinds with no notifications at all. And it tells me the error log is empty. I'm at a loss. My experience is a bit limited I know my way around well enough. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running 8.0.2 with the alert hotfix.

This is no longer needed... deleting and recreating the alerts fixed the issue. Thanks anyway
