Cannot add node to IP SLA using read-only community

Folks,

Is it possible to add nodes to IP SLA using a read-only community string? We are trying to add devices to IP SLA Manager, and SW seems unable to validate the node using SNMP RO.

The nodes are already in SW using the RO community string.

We are using the following version:

SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor 9.5 SP4

What version of IP SLA Manager are you running?

We are using V3.1 which we believe to be the latest one

Good deal... you should be able to add nodes w/o valid write strings. You won't be able to create operations, but you can monitor operations that were manually created on the device.

Agreed. The issue is, that SW will not add these devices to the IP SLA Module using the RO community string.

SW is getting a non-respond when attempting to add the node.

And path operations - Why do they still need cli credentials ?

The application does not perform any action on the devices, besides verifying that it can log in on the device, with enable privliges.

Please remove that.. Otherwise, getting IP SLA implemented on provider managed nodes will be (is) a pain....

The path operations require CLI because some of the data returned from the operations is only available in CLI. For other operations we get all the data from SNMP.

That makes sense. What kind of data ? - Something we can live without ? - If i have to ?

My point is, that ISP´s typically do not like the fact that customers should have CLI access to their routers, to get simple IP SLA information. If the info you mention is "optionable" i could still get my IP SLA path echo probes on all ISP´s....

Mav, the creation of the probe in my case is not done by IPSLAM. I´m just trying to detect an operation defined in a router "somewhere" that i have SNMP RO access to. This would be very helpful...
