Network Atlas Map problem

Hi, I'm trying to create my NPM network map but I'm having trouble with it. Using the map images given to use, when it is completed and implemented on NPM, it becomes very big and only part of it shown. Adjust the resolution yet still have problem.

I tried editing the map to crop certain part of the world map. However I can no longer use that edited map to be use in Network Atlas. I did convert the picture to JPEG format just like the default network map given..

You will need to find the Network Atlas log file in C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas. This should show you the errors regarding why the Atlas is crashing. As far as the map on the website goes, if editing the resource and setting the scale from 100 to 75 doesn't help, then rather than using one of the provided image files, you may want to search for another world map on the web that has smaller dimensions. One of these may work a bit better.

Open the map image up in something like Photoshop and change the actual size to something that fits your screen better.

I have also found Atlas to crash at times especially if I've been making maps for a while. But after restarting the application I can continue to use it for a while again. I just save my changes often now just in case it crashes.

I was using Atlas on the server rather than from my own pc.

I have looked for better maps like you suggested, thanks for that precious advice!

But, I the extentsion of the log file is? I only see xxxx.dll files which I believe they aren't the ones I'm looking for.. Am I wrong? /:

Okay, let me correct myself. In fact, there weren't any log files to begin with in the folder there.

What should I do?

The file you are looking for is NetworkAtlas.log. This should be on the machine you are using the atlas on. If you are on Win 2003, the path would be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\ApplicationData\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas. The previous path I have was for Win 2008.

I checked like you adviced, I saw nothing like NetworkAtlas.log.

Only xxxx.dll OR xxx.exe.config files. Thats all there is to it on the path of win 2008.

There shouldnt be any difference with R2 right?

Not there shouldn't be any difference. Make sure you aren't hiding the extensions of well known file types. If that log file doesn't exist I'd be a bit worried that something else is going on with that implementation. All the logs for the NPM and Network Atlas are written into the ProgramData\SolarWinds directory. That's different than the Program Files as \ProgramData is a hidden folder in 2008. Are your folder options set to allow you to see hidden files and folders?

2 things,first, I apologised for going into the wrong folder if you hadn't told me the Program File is hidden in 2008.

Second, I still couldn't see the "NetworkAtlas.log" file even I checked every folders in in. What's inside was just text documents, Network Atlas Installer & dump files..

What could be the next best solution for this event? In 3 hours time I would get the license for SolarWinds, would it affect the applications I have installed to my NPM?

The Network Atlas text file is probably the log file, your folder view is probably set to the default of hiding extensions of well known file types. Send me this log and I can see what errors are in there. Another thing to try would be to go into C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Installers run the SolarWinds-Orion-NetworkAtlas.msi to remove, then rerun it and reinstall. You won't lose any of your maps or images.

Hi, I'm sorry if I reply late. And am still trying to troubleshoot network atlas map. After removing, rerun it and reinstall it, the problem still persist. I finally manage to find the log files also.
