10G interfaces in unknown status

Hi,

I have many 10G interfaces with our without MPLS configuration on my backbone but all the 10G interfaces are in unknown status.

These interfaces are on Cisco catalyst 6500 or ME3600X devices.

I tried to configure the device to allow 64bit expecting it could help but the counters are configured only for the device and not for the interface. If I go on a 10G interface I can see the 64 bit counter is at NO. And of course the bandwidth is stuck at 4.29Gbps.

Are the 10G interfaces supported and if yes how can I configure NPM to do it?

Check Allow 64 bit counters in the SNMP section of the Node -> Edit Properties view. This will change all the counters for the interfaces also.

I already did it as I said in my first request.

Even if I have the 64bit counter valid for the node, it did report this config to the interfaces.

That is telling you that the device does not have 64 bit counters for the interface OIDS, or at least that something is going wrong in accessing them.

Can you do a MIB walk on the device and see if it returns the high capacity (HC) interface OIDS? If you don't have a MIB walk tool you can DL Engineer's ToolSet and run it for 21 days.

If it is supported you should see OIDS like ifHCInOctets in the IF MIB and the counter should return a non-zero value.

I used the MIB viewer to check that and I can see with IF-MIB:ifXTable the 64 bits counters are available and not at zero. However in RFC1213-MIB I only have 32 bits counters (what I can see in NPM). Is that possible NPM take only the RFC1213 MIB? If yes, is it possible to download some extra MIB in NPM? However I supposed when we authorise 64 bits counters NPM should go to the corresponding MIB, isn't it?

It is odd that so many of the properties of the interface are set to unknown. Can you rediscover the device and see if this populates any of those fields. If it does not you may need to open a ticket. Here are the interface util OIDs we poll. If you run wireshark on the orion server during the rediscover it may show the issue as well.
