Web page alert sounds

Question

Can someone help explain this feature? I was under the impression that if a device goes down then this sound would play. What I am seeing (and need someone to confirm) is that if I am logged into the web page as Admin, on the summary view, that if a node goes down I hear the sound.

If I log into the web page as another user (same settings for the alert sound) I don't hear anything when I am on the Summary view but if I click on the down node then I hear the sound. Kind of missing the point there.

Am I missing something???

That's how it should behave.  It will play a sound if there is a new alert.

What I am seeing is that in the above scenario that if they are logged in as Helpdesk and a node goes down the down node shows up on the screen but no alert sound. Now if they happen to see the down node and click on it THEN they hear the sound.

This doesn't sound right.  Are you using the same sound in both cases?  If not, could it be that there's some silence at the beginning of the file for the Help Desk?  If they are the same files, then it's hard to tell without more hands on analysis.

Ok, so guide me here. Our Helpdesk has the Summary page display and logged in as Helpdesk. If a device goes down then they "should" hear the alarm sound. Right? This should draw their attention to the screen so they can look into it.

What I am seeing is that in the above scenario that if they are logged in as Helpdesk and a node goes down the down node shows up on the screen but no alert sound. Now if they happen to see the down node and click on it THEN they hear the sound.

Yet - if I am logged in as Admin and have the Summary page loaded and a device goes down then I hear the sound on my system without clicking on anything. This is how I expected it to behave.

Also, the summary page for Helpdesk is different that the Admin's summary page. Both accounts have the same alert sound set.

The feature is account-specific.  If it's enabled for one user, you'll hear it.  If it's not enabled for the other user, you won't hear it.  We thought that was better than making it global.
